An important title in this series is the Bulletin. Academic degree program requirements are defined in what is called the university "bulletin" or general catalog. For example, program requirements outline how many credits and what subjects a student needs to complete in order to receive a degree in an academic program within a specific school or college.

SUB-UNIT PUBLICATIONS is comprised of publications from subordinate centers, departments, institutes, offices, and programs within the college. These publications are arranged alphabetically by the creating sub-unit.

TOPICAL PUBLICATIONS is comprised of publications that document specific events or activities such as fundraising or one-time conferences hosted by the college.

University of Michigan chapter of the historically Black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha. The collection includes photographs, event flyers, news articles, yearbook clippings, and documents tracing chapter history.

Alpha Phi Omega is a national service fraternity. This collection of publications from the Gamma Pi chapter at the University of Michigan includes a guide to the university created by the fraternity, chapter newsletters, many issues of the chapter's biannual publication Pi Filling, and several programs from the fraternity's banquets.

The University of Michigan Alumnae Council was founded in 1917 as a group to support women at the University of Michigan. They are active fund-raisers, and use the money to sponsor women's housing, scholarships, and organizations at the University. The records consist of photographs and meeting minutes.

The A New Trotter Initiative (University of Michigan) records contains digital files from the "Core Team", the group of students who directly collaborated with university staff and design contractors to plan the new facility for the William Monroe Trotter Multicultural Center. Materials include meeting agendas and minutes, working papers, presentation materials, photographs and survey data. The collection highlights the motivations behind establishing a new location for the Trotter House on Central Campus and the importance of the center as a multicultural space for students. It also highlights the collaborative process used to select a new location for the Trotter Center and the interior design of the center.

The Christian A. Burck photograph collection is comprised of photoprints made from glass negatives. Scenes include views of people, buildings, and activities in and near Monroe, Michigan, as well as student activities at the University of Michigan.

A community history project intended to record memories and information about East Quad, the traditional home of Residential College, before the structure underwent significant renovations in the summer of 2012. The collection includes video footage and email correspondence of current and former residents, administrators, faculty, and staff sharing stories about life in East Quad as well as a documentary video, images of murals, and a cookbook from the Halfway Inn café.

The East Quad Memory Project records preserves the memories of East Quad as shared by current and former Residential College students, staff and administrators. The collection provides documents the impact of the College's unique environment on students and will furthermore be of use to those interested in the social life and customs of University of Michigan students. The record group consists of two series: East Quadapalooza and Historical Records.

Scrapbook documents Pattengill's time as a student at the University of Michigan. It contains photographs of Pattengill with other students and with her family, football memorabilia, programs, dance cards, correspondence, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and various objects, all dated between 1902 and 1906. Loose scrapbook materials that were found inside the scrapbook, housed in a separate box, include cards and invitations, correspondence, postcards, programs and playbills. The collection includes photographs of Pattengill's future husband Austin T. Brant, her brothers Victor and Craig (who also attended U-M), other family members, and members of her sorority Lambda Rho Tau. Also included in the collection are oversize issues of Chicago Daily Tribune and The Inter Ocean from December 1, 1905 describing the football game between Chicago University and U-M.

Posters and broadsides concerning competition between freshman and sophomore classes at the University of Michigan

The collections consists of 37 poster (21 freshman class and 16 sophomore class) ranging in date from the sophomore class of 1886 to the sophomore class of 1944. The posters are listed by class year--the year a freshman class would graduate. Thus the class of 1910 poster marks the Black Friday event of the Fall of 1906.

The Gargoyle, a University of Michigan humor magazine, was first published in 1909. The collection includes correspondence, ephemera, photographs, reminiscences from Gargoyle staff members, and some original artwork.

The collection includes various materials and papers from former staff members, primarily from John Dobbertin, Jr. Gargoyle editor from 1962-1964. Dobbertin organized many reunions and served as a clearing house for Gargoyle ephemera. Women's cooperative dormitory established in 1945 to provide affordable housing and a supportive community for women enrolled in the University of Michigan. The Henderson House records document the administration, activities, cooperative living experience, and history of the house and students who have lived in it. Records include minutes of governing bodies, policies, scrapbooks, and resident applications.

The University of Michigan Housing Public Affairs office disseminated information and served as a spokesman for issues related to student housing. The files were collected or created by Alan Levy who was the director of Housing Public Affairs starting in the 1990s. Levy also held previous positions within the Housing Division. Included are topical files on campus issues and student life policies as well as national and international events impacting the campus community.

These files from Housing Public Affairs, were collected and created by Alan Levy in his roles with the Housing Division, primarily as housing spokesman. Documentation includes files on topics such as alcohol use, capital improvements, crime and safety, diversity in housing, and student deaths. Additionally, the university's response to external events, such as the outbreaks of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), the September 11 Terrorist Attacks, the Virginia Tech Massacre, and Y2K are also documented. Files on rate changes in university housing during the 1970s, and information of the university's purchase and sale of the Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity house are also found in these records. The files are arranged into four series: Topical Files, University Housing Rate Changes, Nu Sigma Nu, and Audio-Visual Materials.

The Inter-Cooperative Council at Ann Arbor is an organization established to coordinate the activities of cooperative houses founded and operated by University of Michigan students. Their records are comprised of minutes, office files, and newsletters, as well as organization-level topices and related research. The collection also contains records of student cooperative, the Socialist House.

The records of the ICC at Ann Arbor cover the years 1932 to 2012 and are divided into ten series: Minutes, Office Files, Printed Materials, Events and Programs, Organizational Topical Files, Correspondence Files, Collected Research Materials, House Records, External Organizations, and Audio-Visual Materials.

Researchers should note that because of the differences between ICC office organizational systems and the individual processing archivists working on the collection, topics and materials might be found in multiple series.

Records of the Law School document the evolution of legal education at the University of Michigan as well as tenures of various deans and faculty. Documentation includes historical and class files; student organizations and activities; planning and construction of Law School buildings; information on William W. Cook and his bequest; topical files; deans' correspondence; reports and minutes. Also included are materials related to the Thomas M Cooley and William W. Cook lecture series and portraits of faculty and students, photographs of activities of the Judge Advocate General's School held at the Law School during World War II, the construction of the Law Quadrangle and Law Library addition, and student activities.

The Law School Records begin in 1852 and span the years through the end of the twentieth century. The records document the history of legal education at the University of Michigan, the administration of the Law School, and the lives of some of the scholars who have studied and taught there.

The physical arrangement of the records reflects the various accessions of material that have been received from the Law School over the years. This finding aid is structured to reflect the intellectual organization of the records - continuing series and like materials have been brought together regardless of when the records were transferred to the library. The Martha Cook Building (MCB) opened in the fall of 1915 as the second all-women's dormitory on the University of Michigan campus. It was a gift of Mr. William Wilson Cook, a lawyer-philanthropist from New York City who was born and raised in Hillsdale, Michigan. The Maurice C. Greenbaum papers were written by him to his fiancée, Beatrice Weiner, during the 1940 -- 1941 academic year. The National Council of Negro Women, University of Michigan Ann Arbor Collegiate Section records consists of a digital copy of the organization's 2017 constitution obtained from their Maize Page as well as digital outreach materials captured from their Twitter account, @ncnw-um. The outreach materials include event fliers, images of students at events, and advertisements for open positions in the NCNW-UM section, among others.

The University of Michigan News and Information Services (NIS) acts as the University's media relations office, disseminating information about university programs, research, events, and faculty activities. This collection includes audiovisual recordings of press releases, news briefs distributed to television and radio stations, web-based podcasts and digital videos, and externally produced materials about the University and its activities. Additionally, researchers will find copies of University-produced media from the 1970s to the early 2000s in both audio and video formats.

The University of Michigan News and Information Services Audiovisual Materials contains sound and visual materials produced by the University of Michigan to share with the media as well as materials relevant to the promotion and image of the University. News and Information Services also publishes materials featuring achievements by scholars, recordings of speeches by invited speakers, and media appearances by or about University officials, programs, and scholars.

Chartered in 1964, Sigma Rho is the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti, Michigan graduate chapter of the historically Black fraternity Omega Psi Phi. The collection consists of Sigma Rho's administrative records as well as topical files relating to the chapter's activities. Also included is a video invitation to the 2019 William DeHart Hubbard Scholarship Endowment Dinner.

The Omega Psi Phi, Sigma Rho Chapter records include bylaws, committee reports, correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, membership rosters, news clippings, publications, and topical files. The collection illustrates the activities of Sigma Rho as well as the positive impact that gifts of time and money given by social/community service organizations have upon their local communities. Dr. Richard E. Smith is a Black University of Michigan alum, member of the Epsilon chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, a historically Black fraternity, and an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) who worked to enhance prenatal care for teenage and young mothers. He was also involved in efforts to commemorate the role that Detroit and its institutions played in the Underground Railroad. Includes award information, biographical and genealogical material, correspondence, publications, a scrapbook, and topical files.

The Richard E. Smith papers document Smith's personal and professional activities, particularly his involvement in the Epsilon chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, professional career as an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN), and efforts to commemorate the role that Detroit and its institutions played in the Underground Railroad. Klein's unbound scrapbook has wooden covers. It contains materials documenting the 1942 J-Hop, student publications including the Beta Banner, and correspondence. Of note is a letter to her from an older male student explaining how to behave in college. The scrapbook also contains photographs, postcards, programs, newspaper clippings, cards, playbills, report cards, and graduation commencement materials.

The Sam Sturgis collection consists of photographic prints and copy negatives of Washtenaw and Livingston County life from the 1860s through the 1970s. Collected by Ann Arbor photographer Sam Sturgis and Ypsilanti banker Hazel Proctor from a variety of known and unknown sources, the collection represents many aspects of life in Ann Arbor, Brighton, Chelsea, Dexter, Dixboro, Manchester, Saline and Ypsilanti. Main subject categories include churches, schools, businesses, buildings, University of Michigan buildings, staff, students and campus life, streets, panoramic views, rivers, recreation and family life, including residences, men, women, and children. Evolving modes of transportation, such as railroads, interurban streetcars, automobiles, and airplanes are also depicted.

Prints and negatives are divided into two parallel series, with negative use restricted to Bentley staff for preservation and security purposes. Each series is arranged alphabetically by city or town and, within each geographical grouping, in the order in which Sturgis collected the items. Sturgis began donating his collection to the Bentley in 1966, and, as items continue to be received, numbering is continued within each geographical grouping, in the original collecting and numbering order established by Sturgis. While some numbers were originally intended by Sturgis to designate the origins of the item, if known, this information has also been added to the item description under the heading "source" to facilitate patron and staff use. The Bentley does not hold a complete set of prints and negatives. Information on the current availability of both prints and negatives is included in each item listing.

Each photograph has a unique identifying number. The "Sturgis Number" consists of a one or two-letter series code, followed by a numerical number with decimal or alphanumeric number, such as AA 267.21 or AA 35A. the collection is arranged by city as follows

The following books, published by the AAFSB in the early 1970s, are annotated with Sturgis' photograph numbers and may be used as a partial guide to the collection. While two copies of each publication are available for consultation in the reading room, only one of each set has annotations. Established in 1891 as the University of Michigan Training School for Nurses, the School of Nursing offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees and continuing education in nursing specializations including medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric mental health nursing, and nursing administration. The record group includes administrative and topical files of the dean, committee and faculty records, photographs, and research area files.

The physical records of the School of Nursing measure 112 feet, 2 oversize folders, and 1.24 GB (online), with an additional 9 feet of material in records center storage. Physical records date from 1891 to 2010, although the great majority of the material was created after 1940 by the current School of Nursing; the School of Nursing website has been archived since the early 2000s.

Women's honorary society for unaffiliated women students at the University of Michigan established in 1905, one of several Women's honorary societies, including Scroll and Wyvern. Records include minutes, 1916-1927 and 1951-1962, scrapbooks, 1941-1954, 1965-1968, and miscellaneous records and membership information. Scrapbooks include clippings, wartime women's activities during World War II, invitations, membership, and photographs of "tapping" and initiation. Records of Scroll and Wyvern are included in the scrapbooks as is the Assembly Association.

The Senior Society records include minutes, 1916-1927 and 1951-1962, scrapbooks, 1941-1954, 1965-1968, and miscellaneous records and membership information. the records are organized into three series: Organizational Records, Scrapbooks, and Artifacts. Content from the related women's honorary societies Scroll and Wyvern is also present in these records.

University of Michigan student organization established to aid in recruitment, retention, and placement of minority engineering students. Records include minutes, organizational information, and activities material and publications.

The society of Minority Engineers record group is organized into two series Records and Publications. The Records series includes minutes, organizational information, activities material and a brief account of Gardner Leverett's tenure as SMES president, 1990/91.

The Publications series includes Directories and resumé books, programs and a newsletter. The SMES Resumé Book contains the resumés of SMES members. These can be sent directly to personnel departments of major corporations throughout the nation upon request. There is an almost complete run (1979-1993) of this publication in the printed materials subgroup.

The annual SMES Industrial Banquet brings together job candidates and representatives from major corporations in a relaxed, yet professional environment allowing the recruits and the recruiters more personal contact. There is a nearly complete run of the programs for this dinner from 1979 to 1996.
