Bernard A. Galler Papers, 1956-1996 (majority within 1960-1986)

University of Michigan professor of mathematics, charter member of the department of computer and communication sciences; papers include biographical information; correspondence, 1959-1993; files relating to his participation on various boards and professional organizations; and files pertaining to his University of Michigan research activities and to his participation in university affairs and governance.

The papers of Bernard A. Galler measure 28.87 linear feet and date from 1956 to 1994. The bulk of the papers document the years 1960 to 1986 and concern Galler's high level of involvement in the information processing profession at the University of Michigan, nationally, and internationally. The papers are arranged in five series: Biographical, Chronological Correspondence, Professional and Other Activities, University of Michigan and Audiotapes.

The materials acquired in 2006 (boxes 28-29) were from Galler's office located in the Center for Information Technology Integration (CITI). These materials (1.5 linear foot, 1957-1996) focus mainly on the Software Patent Institute. There were a few files from early years acquired with this accession and they are described as part of the previously established series Chronological Correspondence, Professional and Other Activities and University of Michigan. The exception was the addition of an Audiotape series that contains reel-to-reel tapes of lectures Alan J. Perlis gave in 1959.

Bidwell family scrapbooks, 1909-2015 (majority within 1936-1947)

Scrapbooks of the University of Michigan students Betty Lou Bidwell Morris (Literature, Science, and the Arts, Class of 1947), and her parents Howard King Bidwell (Engineering and Architecture, Class of 1924) and Ruth Loella Kinney Bidwell, (Literature, Science, and the Arts, Class of 1924). The scrapbooks contain photographs, dance cards, grade reports, identifications, membershipn cards, and registration cards, announcements, certificates, invitations, programs, newsletters, and letters. Also, Betty Lou's scrapbook of alumnae and reunion material having to do with the Betsy Barbour Buds. Materials relate to the Bidwells' student lives, family lives, and social activities, as well as World War II.

Scrapbooks of Howard King and Ruth Loella Kinney Bidwell, 1909-1940; and Betty Lou Bidwell Morris, 1936-2015. Scrapbooks primarily focus on the academic, family, and social lives of Howard and Ruth Bidwell and their daughter Betty. This includes photographs of their family life, close friends and associates, as well as social activities both on and off campus. Also included are dance, identification, grade report, membership, postal, and school registration cards; announcements of births, engagements, and weddings; honors certificates; invitations and programs for commencement activities, special events, and student organizations. The collection also includes several newspaper clippings from the Michigan Daily (primarily focusing on campus activities and World War II); student and alumnae publications; and other ephemera.

The University of Michigan's highest governing body is the Board of Regents. The Regents deal with virtually every aspect of university policy and campus life. The records of the Regents reflect this broad range of interests and authority. This record group contains exhibits from meetings beginning in 1899. These exhibits are the most complete record of the actions of the Regents, supplementing and detailing the published minutes Proceedings of the Board of Regents. Additional documentation in this record group includes manuscript minutes, 1837-1870, correspondence, material by and about the Regents, photographs, audio recordings of meetings, 1977-2011, and material on recent presidential searches.

As the official governing body of the university, the Regents deal with virtually every aspect of university policy and life. The records of the Regents--which includes exhibits of Regents' meetings, topical files, correspondence files, audio and visual material, and archived web content--reflect this broad range of interests and authority. But while the documentation is wide-ranging, it is not continuous. Certain types of records are continually before the Regents, particularly information regarding salaries, leaves of absence, appointments to faculty positions, and formal approval of degrees conferred upon students. More often, however, the Regents are presented with a specific problem and asked to resolve it through the creation of policy. After the creation and successful implementation of a policy, the situation which caused the issue to arise is usually no longer a matter of Regental concern. The Regents' records reflect this pattern of action. Issues arise, are resolved, and then are supplanted by new concerns.

Camilla and Ethel Green Family Papers, 1827-1988 (majority within 1910-1955)

Camilla and Ethel Green were mother and daughter who resided in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area from the late 1800s through their deaths in 1955 and 1988, respectively. Both women corresponded prolifically with their family, friends and former students. This collection consists primarily of their letters, which are largely organized chronologically if not already grouped by correspondent.

This collection reflects the papers amassed by Camilla and Ethel Green over nearly a century. It is divided into four series: Family Background and Documents, University of Michigan, Correspondence, Photographs. The bulk of the collection occurs from 1910 to 1955 and features correspondence with various friends and family members; a large portion of the letters has been organized by correspondent and/or the correspondent's family, and the remainder is sorted chronologically.

Camp Davis (University of Michigan) records, 1874-1964 (majority within 1910-1950)

Summer engineering camp of the University of Michigan at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Records include correspondence, annual reports, and other papers relating to the establishment and administration of the camp; includes papers of camp directors Joseph B. Davis and Clarence T. Johnson; also includes records of predecessor surveying camps, including the Bogardus Engineering Camp at Douglas Lake, Michigan; and photographs.

The Camp Davis record group documents the summer camps for training students in the techniques of surveying and geodesy conducted by the College of Engineering's Department of Geodesy and Surveying. The bulk of the material concerns Camp Davis and Jackson Hole, Wyoming but also includes material relating to earlier camps at Douglas Lake and other sites in Michigan. The records are organized in five series: Histories; Michigan Engineering Camp, Early Sites, 1874-1912; Bogardus Engineering Camp, Douglas Lake, Michigan, 1906-1929; Camp Davis, Jackson, Wyoming Site, 1929-; and Photographs.

Chihiro Kikuchi papers, 1942-1988

Professor of nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan; specialist in the field of solid-state physics, notably the ruby maser and electron spin resonance; and advocate of nuclear power. Papers include biographical materials; correspondence; electron spin resonance and ruby maser research project files; physics and mathematics notebooks; course files; scientific papers, speeches, and testimonies; and visual materials, mainly intended to accompany lectures.

Kikuchi's Papers consist of 7 linear feet of material documenting Professor Kikuchi's research and academic career over a time span of forty years. The bulk of the collection consists of the lectures Kikuchi gave in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Michigan, 1959-1986. The material from 1956 to 1959 consists of research papers on the ruby maser developed at the Willow Run Laboratory, a facility of the University of Michigan. The papers generated in the 1970s and 1980s reflect mostly Kikuchi's academic and public involvement in pro-nuclear power advocacy.

The papers have been rearranged and organized in eight major series: Biographical (0.1 linear ft); Correspondence, consisting of personal letters from 1942, professional letters from 1949-1950, 1958-1964, and 1972-1988, (0.3 linear ft); Research Projects, arranged chronologically, (0.5 linear ft); Printed Technical Reports by the Department of Engineering, (0.5 linear ft); Notebooks (0.5 linear ft); Lectures for nuclear engineering courses and other topics (3.5 linear ft); Papers 1969-1988 (1 linear ft); and Visual Material (0.6 linear ft), consisting of 99 glass plates, 205 slides, 8 photoprints, and 2 cartoons, all of which relate to Kikuchi's academic activities.

Clarence T. Johnston papers, 1888-1941

Professor of engineering at the University of Michigan. Photos of Johnston's personal and family life in Wyoming and Michigan, including student activities at the University of Michigan; photos of his work on water projects in the West and in Egypt; and photos of Camp Davis, the summer engineering camp of the University of Michigan in Cheboygan Co., Michigan..

The Johnston collection spans the years of 1888-1928. The bulk of the collection is comprised of photographic prints, mainly cyanotypes, and glass plate negatives. Scattered papers are also present and include biographical material and topical files relating to Johnston's personal, religious, and professional activities. The collection has been arranged into five series, which include: Personal and Family Photographs, Work Photographs, Camp Davis Photographs, Glass negatives, and Biographical Materials.

The material in the University of Michigan College of Engineering Class of 1947 records relate mainly to class reunions, held every five years from 1952 through 2007, including materials related to fundraising for and planning of the 50th reunion gift, a reflecting pool and fountain on the university's North Campus.

The material also includes responses to questionnaires sent out around each reunion collecting information about class members since graduation relating to their occupations and personal lives. A complete roster of the class as of 1987 was compiled for the 40th reunion and can be found in that folder.

The University of Michigan College of Engineering Oral History Interviews are comprised of typed transcripts and audio cassette tapes of nine interviews with retired faculty members recorded during an oral history project undertaken by the college. The interviews were conducted by Enid H. Galler in 2003.

Interviews typically include information on the subject's background, education, and family, and commentary on his or her career and overall involvement with the university. The interviews also contain a great deal of information on the administration of, and issues within the College of Engineering, as well as on the operation of the university as a whole.

The College of Engineering Publications are divided into five series; Unit Publications, Sub-Unit Publications, Topical Publications, Student Publications; and Chronologically Arranged Publications.

The Unit Publications series contains printed material published specifically by the College of Engineering. These publications are defined as being widely distributed and may be published at regular intervals. They are arranged by genre of the publication.

The Sub-Unit Publications series contains publications from subordinate offices, departments, programs, laboratories and organizations within the College of Engineering. These publications are arranged alphabetically by the creating sub-unit.

The Topical Publications series includes publications which document specific events or activities such as anniversary celebrations, convocations, faculty awards or memorials, graduation exercises, or one-time conferences hosted by the College of Engineering.

The Student Publications series contains publications published by student groups within the College of Engineering. The specific student organizations are arranged alphabetically by name of the organization.

To expedite access to the College of Engineering publications, all materials received after 2017 are added to the collection in chronological order by the year of publication within the Chronologically Arranged Publications series. The series contains Unit, Sub-Unit, Topical, and Student publications.

The College of Engineering records date from 1860 to 2014 and measure 118.5 linear feet, 3 oversize folders, and 1,196 GB. The records document the internal activities of the College of Engineering, both administrative and academic, the role of the college as a unit of the University of Michigan, and research developments and trends over the years. Correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, financial records, and other material reflect changing research interests within the field of engineering as well as the curriculum development that has accompanied technological advances. Of particular interest are the files relating to outside work by faculty members, a question of enduring concern within the college. The records reflect the relations of the College of Engineering with private industry, especially through the documentation of funding from outside sources and the involvement of professors in outside research.

Electrical engineering was established as a department in the College of Engineering in 1895. In 1971 it was renamed as the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Department of Computer and Communication Science was transferred from the College of Literature, Science and the Arts in 1984. The faculties and courses were merged under new designation Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Departmental records include administration material relating to policies and budget, annual reports and reviews, topical files, photographs, and personnel files of inactive faculty and research scientists. Records describe the facilities, curriculum, and teaching and research activities within the department.

The Emil Lorch papers are valuable for their documentation of the career of this important architectural educator and for that material about Michigan architecture and historic structures that Lorch accumulated in the course of his professional study and organizational involvement. The collection includes extensive correspondence with many of the country's leading architects, most notably members of the "Chicago School," and architectural educators, and manuscript and photographic documentation resulting from Lorch's involvement with the Michigan Historic Buildings Survey and various restoration projects, including Mackinac Island.

Ferdinand Northrup Menefee Papers, 1913-1962

Professor of engineering mechanics at the University of Michigan. Materials concerning his interest in the St. Lawrence Seaway, his work with the American Concrete Institute's investigation of precast floor systems, and his activities with the American Society of Civil Engineers' Committee on Water Diversion; also subject files on prohibition and immigration policy in the 1920's; and photographs.

The Menefee papers documents his professional career as a teacher and as a specialist in engineering mechanics. Following a single folder of Biographical Material, the collection divides into the following series: Correspondence, Speeches, Subject Files, and Photographs.

Harry Burns Hutchins papers, 1879-1930

Professor of law and president of the University of Michigan. Papers include correspondence, reports, and speeches relating to all aspects of his University activities; and visual materials.

The Harry B. Hutchins papers cover the years 1879 through 1929, and include records generated during his years as professor and dean of the law department, President of the University of Michigan, and in retirement. Boxes 1-18 are primarily comprised of correspondence. Reports of the departments, schools, and other units of the university are contained in box 19, folders 30-32, and box 20, folders 1-13. As president, Hutchins did not regularly submit annual reports to the Board of Regents. Additional materials include speeches, photographs, and biographical material.

The Henry Earle Riggs collection includes correspondence and documents, 1914-1924, relating to valuation of the Detroit United Railway. This includes correspondence removed from the files of Mortimer E. Cooley. There are also other materials relating to public utilities valuation, civil engineering, and public works, mainly lectures, addresses, articles, and testimony.

Of special note is a file of correspondence relating to University of Michigan Civil Engineering alumni killed in World War I, file on the history of the Ann Arbor Railroad, and a 1942 speech describing problems of the proposed Willow Run, Michigan, wartime housing development.

Transferred into the School of Business Administration and the College of Engineering's Office of Technology Transfer in the late 1980s. The record group documents the administration, history, and projects of the Industrial Development Division and includes five series: Administrative File, Historical File, Projects, Public Relations, and Reports.

The records of the Industrial Development Division measure two linear feet and range from 1960 to 1991. These materials provide particularly good documentation of some of the programs and projects run through this unit. Papers of James Burrill Angell, the third President of the University of Michigan (1871-1909) and U.S. Minister to China (1871-1909) and Turkey (1897-1898). Includes correspondence, lectures and lecture notes, addresses and articles, subject files and personal materials, and photographs.

The Angell papers documents Angell's academic and diplomatic career. There is extensive material on all phases of University of Michigan business, particularly Angell's contacts with the state legislature, the board of regents, faculty relations, and the various schools, colleges, departments and divisions. Much of the correspondence and the Angell diaries relate to his diplomatic missions, higher education in the United States, and family matters.

Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Michigan; designer of the proposed Mackinac Bridge; and member of the Mackinac Straits Bridge Authority. Correspondence, newspaper clippings, blueprints and notes concerning the design and construction of the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan. Correspondents include: Mortimer E. Cooley and G. Donald Kennedy.

The James H. Cissel Papers, 1934-1943, contain approximately one linear ft. of materials and serve as an interesting account of the architecture and technology of bridge design in the 1930s and document a little known period in the history of the Mackinac Bridge. The papers are comprised of materials pertaining to Cissel's involvement with the design and construction of the proposed Mackinac Straits Bridge. The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, architectural and design studies, and blueprints. The original order of the collection has for the most part been maintained. This collection includes a letter to Abbott's mother, dated August 1918, containing his impressions of England and France written shortly after his arrival in Europe, as well as a photograph album, circa 1910-1915, relating to student life at the University of Michigan.

The album of photographs and memorabilia relates to student activities, especially athletics, the Michigan Union Opera, Phi Delta Chi, Phi Kappa Sigma, Triangles, and Vulcans.

The J. Raleigh Nelson collection is comprised of the following series: Family papers; Correspondence, Subject files, Miscellaneous, and Photographs. The correspondence and subject files concern the University of Michigan School of Engineering, his work with foreign students, particularly those from Latin America, student dramatic productions for which Nelson was director, the proposed University College, the activities and affairs of class of 1894, and his work as chairman of Tappan Reunion Committee which attempted to bring alumni from the years of the Tappan Presidency to University for a reunion in June 1930. The collection also includes manuscripts of his writings, photographs, and letters received from his mother.

Professor of chemical and nuclear engineering and director of the Fission Product Laboratory at The University of Michigan. Professional correspondence and reports largely concerning his interest in the use of radiation for preserving food.

The Lloyd Brownell papers consist largely of materials documenting Brownell's food irradiation experiments at the University of Michigan from 1951 to 1954. Other topics include experiments on the effects of radiation on petrochemical processes and pharmaceuticals and Brownell's work in sugar beet processing techniques. Beyond his work as a scientist, the collection also depicts the social climate of mid-1950s America, characterized by popular and industrial faith in progress and the powers of science. The collection has been divided into six series: Biographical/Bibliographical, Correspondence, Conferences, Projects, Articles and Programs, and Clippings.

The Marvin Niehuss Papers document his career as Law School faculty member and university administrator. The papers include correspondence and reports concerning University affairs and some course materials from Niehuss' law classes. The Mortimer E. Cooley papers consists of correspondence, subject files, personal materials, and photographs detailing the professional career and activities of a distinguished engineering educator. Primarily records of the Evaluation and Planning Project, 1974-1979, a study of all academic and academically related units under the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The records of the Office of Budget and Planning document the activities of the office from 1970 to 1982. This period includes the transition of the office from the Office of Institutional Research to the Office of Academic Planning and Analysis (renamed Office of Budget and Planning in 1997) and the concurrent shift of core office activities from data collection to planning and analysis. One such analysis and planning activity that is well documented in the records is the Evaluation and Planning Project, 1974-1982. These records both document the planning process as well as provide a unique portrait of the academic units which reported to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. There is also material relating to formal unit reviews and self-studies, 1978-1982, that were not formally part of the Evaluation and Planning Project. In addition to the records from the 1970-1982 period, the record group includes a complete sequence of the Standard Survey Response Document (SSRD) starting in 1991. The records of the Office of Budget and Planning are organized into four series: Administrative Files, Unit Reviews, Correspondence, and Standard Survey Response Document.

The records of the University of Michigan President contain the central files created and collected by the President and members of the President's staff. There is some content inherited from earlier presidents, but the record group effectively begins in 1967 with the administration of Robben W. Fleming and continues through successive administrations. The records of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs date from 1947 to 1997 and total more than 675 linear feet. The records are a rich source of information on the University of Michigan from the 1960s to the present. They contain a wide variety of material documenting the concerns of the administration and, to a lesser extent, the faculty and students regarding academic programs, student and faculty activities, and the administrative operations of the University of Michigan.

The records, which include the provost's files as well as the files of associate and assistant vice presidents, are arranged in three subgroups: Central Files, Staff Files, and Supplemental Files. The Central Files subgroup consists of the records maintained by the provost's office and is discussed in greater detail below. The Staff Files subgroup includes the records of assistant and associate vice presidents and of the assistants to the provost. The Supplemental Files subgroup contains material on specific topics to which a number of academic affairs staff contributed their efforts, including retreats, unit reviews, and searches. Each of the subgroups is fully described in a separate finding aid.

It should be noted that some of the records in the record group predate the founding of the Office of Academic Affairs. Such records were generally brought by vice presidents or staff members from previous positions or inherited from persons who formerly performed their duties.

The Central Files subgroup consists of 605 linear feet dating from the creation of the Office of Academic Affairs in the academic year 1961/1962 to 2012/2013. The records consist primarily of correspondence, minutes and other committee files, reports, and budget materials, reflecting the broad range of responsibilities and functions of the provost. Whereas the records of the Staff Files subgroup tend to document the process of policy formation and decision-making functions, the Central Files records more often contain finished products, such as reports and policy statements. For the researcher interested in the provost's views on a particular topic or issue, or the Office of Academic Affairs involvement in the academic and financial life of various schools and colleges, the Central Files subgroup is the single best starting point.

The records of the Central Files subgroup are broken into series by academic year, and each series consists of one or more of the following subseries: Alphabetical Files, Schools and Colleges Files, and Chronological Files. From 1961/1962 through 1973/1974 the series each consist of one subseries of Alphabetical Files. The Alphabetical Files are arranged alphabetically and include topical files as well as files regarding university academic, research, and service units.

From 1974/1975 to 1983/1984 the series are split into two subseries, Alphabetical Files and Schools and Colleges Files. The Alphabetical Files remain similar in content to previous years with the exception that files relating to academic units, namely schools, colleges, and their departments, now comprise the subseries Schools and Colleges Files. Records concerning centers, special libraries, museums, institutes, and interdisciplinary programs are filed in the Alphabetical Files subseries. The Schools and Colleges Files are arranged alphabetically by academic unit and contain materials relating to the annual budget requests, promotion and tenure decisions, internal and external reviews, dean evaluations, and changes in academic programs.

For the years 1974/1975 to 1981/1982, with the exception of 1976/1977, there is an "Index to Correspondence" located at the end of the Alphabetical Files which lists in chronological order the letters written by the vice president, the name of the recipient, the subject of the letter, and the heading under which it is filed.

From 1984/1985 to 1993/1994, 1998/1999-2008/2009 and 2010/2011-2011/2012 the series consist of three subseries: Alphabetical Files, Schools and Colleges Files, and Chronological Files. The Alphabetical Files and the Schools and Colleges Files, while becoming more voluminous over the years, remain similar in nature. The Chronological Files consist of all outgoing correspondence from the vice president and are arranged by month. The Chronological Files are useful if the researcher knows the date the vice president might have corresponded on a particular topic but is unsure of the heading used for filing in the Alphabetical Files.

The Alphabetical Files, as mentioned above, are a strong source of information on a variety of topics relating to the administration of a large university, including the university's relationship with state and federal governments, issues confronting institutions of higher education at various points in time (student unrest and affirmative action, for example), collaborative efforts with other Big Ten and area colleges and universities, and the creation and revision of university policies. The minutes of the Academic Affairs Advisory Council (AAAC) are an especially good source of information on the activities of the Office of Academic Affairs. The AAAC, composed of the deans of the schools and colleges, directors of institutes, centers, and special libraries, and the staff of the Office of Academic Affairs, was established to hold monthly meetings to discuss educational policy, planning for growth, and special studies.

Because folder titles on a particular subject may vary from year to year, researchers are advised to be imaginative in searching for information in the topical files. It should also be noted that information on any given subject can probably be found in various places in the collection.

The 2010 and 2011 series feature the addition of the Archived Website subseries. These were created to preserve the office's public website over time. The subseries document the mission, activities, policies, and individuals involved in the operation of the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs as they are presented on its public website. Content includes important news and announcements, publications (such as reports and administrative documents), and information about committees, initiatives, and events. Ralph Loomis Papers, 1963-1989 (majority within 1968-1975)

Ralph A. Loomis was a professor of English in the English and Humanities department of the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. He made significant contributions to faculty governance while teaching at the University of Michigan, 1953-1993. The collection ranges from 1963 to 1989 (bulk 1968-1975, 1983). The records contain information on the College of Engineering and the Department of English, including the dissolution of the Department and Loomis' involvement in many committees on campus, and documentation of the Johnathan Marwil court case.

As an active member of committees at both the University of Michigan and as a member of the AAUP, Ralph Loomis comprehensively collected correspondence and memoranda from the work of Department of English and Humanities committees, College of Engineering committees, and University committees established by the Senate Assembly and SACUA, as well as various ad hoc committees established by the university.

As a member of the AAUP, Ralph Loomis collected a wide array of correspondence, memoranda, and minutes of the university, state, and national chapters, as well as working committees of those chapters. Especially interesting is the collection of papers relating to collective bargaining. These papers include speeches that Ralph Loomis gave on collective bargaining, as well as papers relating to the collective bargaining elections at Eastern Michigan, Northern Michigan, and Wayne State, which occurred during 1971 to 1972.

The collection is divided into four major series: Department of Humanities/English, College of Engineering, University of Michigan, American Association of University Professors, Dissolving of the Department, General Files, and Johnathan Marwil Case.

Long, concerning family matters, highway transportation, the automobile industry, general economic conditions, foreign trade, World War I, national defense, state and national politics, the Republican Party, and the University of Michigan. The collection also contains extensive papers concerning the Hudson Motor Car Company, including information on management policies, production, and labor organizing.

Santiago Artiaga papers, 1914-1957

City engineer in the Philippines; correspondence, biographical materials, and photographs.

A large part of Artiaga's papers concern his activities as Governor of Bukidnon Province. These materials, in both Spanish and English, include the minutes of the provincial board, official correspondence, miscellaneous technical reports, and some photographs. The remainder of his papers relate to The University of Michigan and his activities within The University of Michigan Alumni Club of the Philippines in the period of 1950-1957. In addition to his correspondence with Mortimer Cooley, there is a letter written in 1931 regarding the visit of Michigan Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg to the Philippines. There is also information about Frank Murphy, Governor General of the Philippines located in Artiaga's 1933 correspondence with Mortimer Cooley. Some of Artiaga's other correspondents are University of Michigan professors and administrators, including George G. Brown, Mortimer E. Cooley, Ivan C. Crawford, Joseph R. Hayden, James K. Pollock, Alexander G. Ruthven, Shirley W. Smith, and T. Hawley Tapping.

The society of Minority Engineers record group is organized into two series Records and Publications. The Records series includes minutes, organizational information, activities material and a brief account of Gardner Leverett's tenure as SMES president, 1990/91.

The Publications series includes Directories and resumé books, programs and a newsletter. The SMES Resumé Book contains the resumés of SMES members. These can be sent directly to personnel departments of major corporations throughout the nation upon request. There is an almost complete run (1979-1993) of this publication in the printed materials subgroup.

The annual SMES Industrial Banquet brings together job candidates and representatives from major corporations in a relaxed, yet professional environment allowing the recruits and the recruiters more personal contact. There is a nearly complete run of the programs for this dinner from 1979 to 1996.

The Stewart F. Hicks papers primarily document Hicks's work as a bridge project engineer during the construction of the Manistee Memorial Bridge as well as academic pursuits and early professional work.

The Stewart F. Hicks papers document Hicks' professional career as an engineer. The collection includes some materials related to his academic pursuits and early professional work, but the bulk of the collection relates to Hicks' work as a bridge project engineer on the Manistee Memorial Bridge. Materials relating to the Manistee Memorial Bridge project include correspondence to and from Hicks, daily reports prepared by Hicks, and project files including proposals, charts, blueprints, reports, and news regarding the bridge's dedication.
