The Osborn collection consists of correspondence, diaries, business papers, scrapbooks, photographs, and other materials accumulated during his life. Materials prior to 1889 are scarce possibly because of a fire which destroyed Osborn's home; thereafter and up to the time of his death in 1949, the Osborn papers are voluminous, documenting each of this man's varied activities. Although his career as elected public official was limited to one term as governor, the collection reflects the importance of his life in areas beyond politics alone. His voice was heard, in letters and speeches and monographs, speaking out on the issues of the day - prohibition, conservation, the New Deal, and of course his life-long interest in the development of Michigan's Upper Peninsula economy and natural resources.

The Louis C. Cramton papers came to the Bentley Historical Library in three separate accessions (1948-1950; 1971; 1987). The collection has been arranged into six series: Correspondence, Miscellaneous Papers, Topical Files, Newspaper clippings/Scrapbooks, Photographs, and Louis Kay Cramton Papers.

The student papers are organized alphabetically by author in two series, which are similar in date range and topics covered. Topics of papers concern Michigan social and political history; Michigan biography and bibliography; local community history and University of Michigan history. A topical index to the papers is available in the first box of the collection.

The Currie papers cover the period between 1910 and 1960 and consist primarily of correspondence relating to his years in the Michigan Legislature, including letters of encouragement and support to and from peers and constituents. The majority of this correspondence focuses on support for and speculation concerning Gilbert Currie's bid for the job of speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives.

The Frank Knox papers consist of two series: Correspondence and Addresses. The Correspondence series dates from 1907 to November 1910 and was donated by Chase S. Osborn. These are the papers from Osborn's campaign for governor, 1909-1910, and detail the close relationship between Osborn and Knox. The second series of Addresses was donated by Col. Knox in 1938, then at the Chicago Daily News, and concern his interest in public affairs, the New Deal, and his own campaign as vice presidential candidate in 1936.

The collection spans the dates 1904-1926 and contains five linear feet of correspondence, clippings, photographs and scrapbooks concerning Baker's political and business activities.

The Newton papers consists of correspondence and other materials relating to Republican Party politics, including elections of 1906, 1910, 1912 and 1918. There is also material relating to the early development of the Jackson Automobile Company. Correspondents include: Patrick H. Kelley, William A. Smith, Charles E. Townsend, Fred M. Warner and William W. Wedemeyer. The collection also includes a small folder of photographs.

The collection is comprised mainly of eighteen scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings with some photographs documenting both the political career of Heineman and the politics of Detroit, in general in the period of the first decade of the twentieth century. There is also a photograph album of the Heineman home, and memorial clippings following his death.
