The collection consists of photographs taken by student members of the staff of the Michiganensian. The photographs were taken for the 1980 and 1981 issues of the publication and document student activities and organizations, athletics, and campus scenes.

University of Michigan staff photographer, 1913-1947 and commercial photographer in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Collection includes some manuscript material but is primarily photographic prints and negatives made by Swain. Photo subjects include university buildings, faculty, and student activities, archeological expeditions to the Near East and, Ann Arbor scenes and landscapes form his travels in the western United States and Canada.

The papers and photographs of George R. Swain mainly document Swain's accomplishments as university photographer at the University of Michigan from 1913 to 1947. Researchers should note, however, that this is only a sampling of the photographer's work during these years. The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at the University of Michigan has an extensive collection of Swain's archaeological negatives and prints, and researchers interested in his full career will want to also look at the Kelsey collection. The Bentley Library material, while including several folders of fine photographs Swain made on his travels with Professor Frances Kelsey, for the most part documents Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan.

The collection at the Bentley Library consists of three series: Miscellaneous Papers; Photographers Log; and Photographs (prints; negatives; and lantern slides. Since the bulk of the collection is comprised of early twentieth century images of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan, the materials will be of most interest to researchers searching for visual documentation of this part of the state in that time period. There are very few materials beyond the visual, although the lengthy captions attached to many overseas images and the essays, diaries, and letters, are extremely interesting and offer insight into how Swain approached his craft, both as a professional photographer and in his personal work.

The records of The Top Ladies Of Distinction, Ann Arbor Chapter comprise 0.3 linear feet of materials spanning the years 1982-1986. The collection is organized into three series: Ann Arbor Chapter, Area V (Detroit), and National Office. The collection documents the founding, development and operation of an important Black women organization. Included are such materials as minutes of meetings, correspondence, press releases and clippings, and other materials documenting the administration of the organization and its various outreach activities.

Ann Arbor chapter of international women's professional and service organization. Administrative records, newsletters, yearly members booklets, correspondence, and other materials relating to club activities.

The records of the Zonta Club of Ann Arbor cover the period 1972 to 1990, though the bulk of the materials date since 1987. The record group largely concerns the official functions of the Club and the various events that it sponsored. The folders in the record group are arranged alphabetically, with the contents of folders either arranged chronologically or alphabetically.

The folders labeled Administrative, Board Meeting Agenda, Business and Social Meetings, and Treasurer's Reports contain organizational records of the club. Included with these files are such items as the president's conference report, the proposed budget for operations, the report of pledges and contributions, various committee reports, committee announcements, officers reports, and financial credits and disbursements. The Correspondence folder constitutes the largest portion of the collection. Included is correspondence with the Zonta International Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, with the state (District XV) office, and with other clubs in the area (Area III). Also included is correspondence with other service organizations that Zonta of Ann Arbor financially endorsed or worked with in charity functions.

The Published Meetings file contains a set of booklets which are produced annually with the following topics in each booklet: the Zonta Blessing, Zonta Code, Clubwomens Collect written by Mary Stewart, listing of former Club Presidents, Officers Board Members, Committees, yearly calendar, and roster of members. The Social and Educational file contains notices of upcoming charity, social events, educational seminars and regional and national conferences of Zonta International.

Papers, 1970-1976, of the Women's Advocate of the University of Michigan, office created to meet the personal and legal needs of women at the University of Michigan. Contain reference and topical files concerning women's issues, especially abortion, childcare, health care, legal problems, affirmative action, and equal rights.

A large part of the collection consists of reference files of articles related to women's issues. Topical files include materials on career planning, the Center for Continuing Education of Women, the Women's Media Center, and childcare programs and other projects for women at the university. Annual reports, evaluations and various committee reports related to the work of the Women's Advocate Office are also included.

Ann Arbor peace activist during the Vietnam War era; correspondence and other materials relating to her activities within peace organizations.

The collection includes correspondence, newsletters, printed material, and newspaper clippings concerning the Women Strike for Peace, the House Un-American Activities Committee, the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, disarmament, the draft, civil defense and fallout shelters. The collection has been arranged into the following series: Ann Arbor Women for Peace; Women Strike for Peace; Peace Issues; and Surveillance Files.

The Alva Gordon Sink Alumnae Chapter was established in 1959/60 as an offshoot of the University of Michigan Alumnae Association. The Sink Group provides financial support and mentorship to women attending the University of Michigan through scholarships, annual fundraising and social events. Materials include administration materials, officer records, newsletters, and membership directories.

The records of the University of Michigan Alumnae Club of Ann Arbor, Alva Gordon Sink Group contain information about the founding of the group, its programs, activities, and membership. The records include correspondence, minutes, membership directories, and newsletters. The records are divided into five series, Administration, Officer Records, Newsletters and other mailings, Directories, and Yearly Files.

Ann Arbor, Michigan, women's organization formed to provide friendship and assistance to foreign women visitors to Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. Minutes, reports, bulletins and newsletters, slide presentations, and other materials relating to their activities.

The records of the International Neighbors document the activities, services, and organization of the International Neighbors. It is significant for showing the development of a community organization to satisfy needs of foreign women in Ann Arbor and for revealing social interactions among American and foreign women. Formerly known as the Women Painters' Group and affiliated, 1951-1960, with the Ann Arbor Art Association and the Women's City Club. In 2002, the name of the organization was changed to Ann Arbor Women Artists. Historian's books containing yearbooks, newspaper clippings, membership lists, officer reports, and exhibition material.

The records of the organization include clippings, programs, directories of members, minutes of meetings and annual reports, records of the historian and the exhibition committee.

The Lucile B. Conger Alumnae Chapter was established in 1947 as an offshoot of the Junior Michigan Alumnae Group. The Conger Chapter provides financial support and mentorship to women attending the University of Michigan through annual fundraising and social events. Materials include officer records, newsletters, membership directories, and scrapbooks.

The collection is divided into four series, Officer Records, Newsletters, Directories, and Visual Materials.

Local branch of organization established to foster closer ties between city and country women and to stimulate interest in gardening and horticultural pursuits. Membership rosters, organizational files, historical information, files relating to fundraising and civic events, notably the Greens Market sale and the Garden Walk tour of local gardens; also photographs.

The records of the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association, Ann Arbor Branch, document all of the group's various organizational and community service activities. They reflect the organization's dedication to community service through scholarships, charitable gifts, and service activities. The records of the University of Michigan Panhellenic Association contain meeting minutes, annual officers' reports, newspaper clippings, presidents reports, scrapbooks, photographs, printed materials, posters and broadsides. The records document the administration and history of the Panhel at the University of Michigan.

The records of the Panhellenic Association (Panhel) measure 7.5 linear feet and include one outsize scrapbook and an outsize folder. The records date from 1945 to 1991 and consist of meeting minutes, annual officers' reports, newspaper clippings, photographs, printed materials, and posters. Despite the range of years covered by the collection as a whole, no one time period is completely documented. For additional information on the history of Panhel, the researcher should consult the folders under the heading "Sororities" in the University of Michigan Library Clipping File and the folder "Panhellenic" in the Vertical File at the Bentley Historical Library.

The records of Panhel are divided into six series: Topical Files, President's Reports, Scrapbooks, Photographs, Printed Materials, and Posters and Broadsides.

Interdenominational church women's organization, formerly known as United Church Women of Ann Arbor. Minutes, reports, yearbooks, scrapbooks, photographs, sound recordings, and other files relating to activities and interests.

The record group begins with a file relating to the organization's history and administrative structure. This is followed by a bound volume containing minutes for the years of 1941 to 1950. The record group is then arranged into yearly files dating from 1950 to 2004. These files include such materials as mimeographed board of directors reports as well as a variety of newsletters, bulletins, and financial reports. An important source of information about the organization is a series of scrapbooks with clippings and some photographs detailing group activities in the period of 1960 to 2001.

Records, 1939-1983, of the Women of the University Faculty. Includes constitution, history, membership rosters, minutes, financial reports, and correspondence.

Most of the records, 1939-1983, of the Women of the University Faculty have been arranged in chronological order by academic year. The first files contain basic information -- such as a history, various revisions of the constitution, publicity, duties of officers, and summaries of activities. There are also files relating to the group's clubroom and the hosting of the Senate and House Club (wives of Michigan legislators) on two occasions. The general files, arranged by academic year, include membership rosters, lists of officers and committee members, minutes, financial reports, and correspondence.
