Harold M. Dorr papers, 1922-1973

Professor of political science and dean of state-wide education at University of Michigan. Correspondence, notebooks and other papers concerning University activities, the Rotary Club, his work with the Ann Arbor Township, Washtenaw County (Mich.) Zoning Board and Planning Commission, and his work as special consultant to the occupation forces in Germany following World War II; records, 1956-1959, relating to the establishment of the Dearborn campus of the University of Michigan; and photographs.

The Harold M. Dorr collection provides excellent documentation of the professor's activities both in and out of the classroom. There is extensive material detailing his long-time activities with the Ann Arbor Rotary and as a member of the zoning board and planning commission of Ann Arbor Township. Also documented is his role with the U-M Extension Service and his interest in the university's state-wide education program. The series in the collection are: Family; Correspondence; Other materials; Notebooks; Manuscripts of writings; Department of Political Science; Ann Arbor Township activities; and Topical and organizational activities. Portions of the collection are unprocessed.

JJR Inc. photographic slides, 1960s-1990s

The JJR photographic slide collection relates solely to the firm's Michigan projects. The files are arranged into three series: Michigan; University of Michigan; and Other Michigan Universities. Included are slides of project sites (with some aerial images), site plans, and conceptual drawings. Although the collection covers the entire state, the bulk of the slides relate to southeast and lower Michigan, especially Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, and Saginaw. The files are in the order maintained by the organization. There is thus some overlap between the general Michigan series and the University of Michigan and Other Michigan Universities series. The researcher is advised to examine the finding aid closely.

Kenneth C. Welch Papers, 1915-1972

Grand Rapids, Michigan, architect and planner. Correspondence, writings, working files, and photographs for out-of-state and Michigan projects, primarily in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, and East Lansing; professional materials relating to problems of urban planning, the design of department stores and shopping centers, his general interest in lighting designs, traffic patterns, and parking areas, and to his work with the Lake Michigan Region Planning Committee, the American Institute of Architects and the Michigan Society of Architects; also Welch family materials, including record, 1915-1925, of the Welch Manufacturing Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Welch papers include a small amount of biographical and personal material, but the bulk of the collection documents his work on architectural, design and planning projects in Michigan and across the country - many having to do with shopping malls, business districts and urban redevelopment. The collection is arranged in eight series: biographical materials; correspondence; personal, financial, and family materials; professional information files; Michigan project files; out-of-state project files; articles and speeches; and photographs.

Kevyn Orr is an attorney who served as Emergency Manager for the City of Detroit from 2013 to 2014, and oversaw the city's Chapter 9 bankruptcy filing and financial restructuring during that period. This collection contains physical and digital records documenting Orr’s tenure as emergency manager, including governmental, legal, and financial records as well as correspondence and handwritten notes.

This collection contains analog and digital records created between 2010 and 2014, the vast majority of which derive from Kevyn Orr’s eighteen month tenure as Emergency Manager of the City of Detroit (March 2013 – December 2014). These documents include official announcements, orders, contracts, and reports from the office of the Emergency Manager, as well as budgetary planning and financial restructuring records. It also holds legal and advisory documents related to the Detroit Chapter 9 Bankruptcy filing. Some correspondence, internal memos, meeting agendas and public relations material are included as well.

Records of the Michigan Land Use Institute, a northern-Michigan based environmental and regional planning organization. The Institute uses local programming and local and statewide political lobbying to establish an approach to economic and physical development that strengthens communities, limits suburban sprawl, and protects Michigan’s natural resources. This record group contains correspondence, reports, conference papers, and publications related to the organization and its goals.

The Michigan land Use Institute Records contain materials dating from the Institute's inception in 1995 through 2006 and originating from a number of different offices and administrative units. The collection has been divided into five series, Legal, Library, Policy Files, Program Files, and Visual and Electronic Materials.
