This collection is made up of 8 letters that Frederick C. Myrick wrote to Thomas T. Miller of Somers, New York, between January 29, 1847, and November 11, 1853. Myrick, who had moved from New York to Lake Orion, Michigan, often discussed business and financial matters, including farming, milling, and lumbering. He reported the price of wheat, referred to his desire to plant corn, and expressed his satisfaction with hard-working hired men. Myrick sometimes encouraged Miller to move west, believing that opening a mill or other businesses in Michigan was a quick path to prosperity. In his letter of November 6, 1852, he mentioned the rapid growth of Detroit and his disappointment after learning of Winfield Scott's defeat in the presidential election.

The Great Lakes Region cities and rivers photograph album contains approximately 125 photographs of Detroit, Grand Rapids, Chatham, Minneapolis, and Saginaw from 1916 to 1919. The images show many of the same people canoeing, skiing, and fishing. Most album pages include handwritten captions with date, location, and names, and some photographs have handwritten notations on the back. Individuals referred to as John, Mother, Wahnita, and Aunt Anna appear most frequently. Also included are images of a Peace Day and Armistice Day parade in 1918 and a Standard Oil fire in July, 1919. A few images show scenes from the Panama Canal Zone.

The album is 21.75 x 13.5 cm with dark brown cloth covers.

Postcard views of Michigan cities and the University of Michigan.

The Michigan Historical Collections postcard collection contains picture postcards of Michigan scenes. The collection was brought together by MHC staff. The postcards depict a large number of Michigan communities, with the largest number of cards relating to Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan, and Detroit.

The postcards are arranged by the name of the town shown in the picture. In cases where names have changed, or for rural places that might be identified with several surrounding towns, the postcards are filed according to the name used on the card. For instance, postcards of the Irish Hills region can be found under that name as well as under the nearby towns of Brooklyn and Onsted.
