University of Michigan football player from 1966 to 1969. Collection includes three playbooks and associated ephemera, such as practice schedules and correspondence sent to players by coaching staff.
This collection consists of three Michigan football playbooks issued to team members from the 1967, 1968, and 1969 seasons. These were Bump Elliott's final two seasons as head coach and Bo Schembechler's first. All three playbooks are primarily concerned with fall camp, prior to the beginning of each season.
Each playbook is unique to its season, but all contain practice schedules, formation and blocking scheme information, and instructions on specific techniques. The playbooks also include elements particular to that edition, such as team terminology, strategy and gameplan guides, recruiting information, practice routines, and self-scouting reports. 1967 and 1968 in particular include summer correspondence from the coaching staff to the players, discussing the importance of maintaining a summer training routine and providing motivation.
