Publications produced by the A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and its sub-units and architecture student organizations. The A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning Publications are divided into four series: Unit Publications; Sub-Unit Publications; Topical Publications; and Student Publications. The bulk of the publications document the college, its organization, course offerings, communications to faculty, staff, students, and alumni, and various research reports written by the college's faculty.

UNIT PUBLICATIONS is comprised of publications produced by the administration of the college. These publications are defined as being widely distributed and may be published at regular intervals. They are arranged by genre of the publication.

This series includes annual reports, articles, bibliographies, brochures, bulletins including college catalogs, directories, histories, holiday cards, lectures, manuals, newsletters, policies and procedures, posters, programs, proposals, prospectuses, and reports.

An important title in this series is the Bulletin. Academic degree program requirements are defined in what is called the university "bulletin" or general catalog. For example, program requirements outline how many credits and what subjects a student needs to complete in order to receive a degree in an academic program within a specific school or college.

SUB-UNIT PUBLICATIONS is comprised of publications from subordinate centers, departments, institutes, offices, and programs within the college. These publications are arranged alphabetically by the creating sub-unit.

TOPICAL PUBLICATIONS is comprised of publications that document specific events or activities such as fundraising or one-time conferences hosted by the college.

STUDENT PUBLICATIONS contains publications published by student groups within the college.

Interdisciplinary, area studies center at the University of Michigan. Publications include brochures and pamphlets, calendars, catalogs of center publications, flyers, newsletters, posters, press releases, bulletins and course catalogs, lectures, manuals, programs, and reports. The Publications series (.5 linear foot) consists of two subseries: Unit Publications and Sub-Unit Publications.

The Unit Publications series contains brochures, bulletins and course catalogs, calendars, catalogs of publications, flyers announcing lectures and mini-courses, lectures, manuals, posters describing the noon lecture series, press releases featuring Japanese film festivals, programs from the U.S.--Japan Automotive Industry Conference, and reports. The Center for Japanese Studies publishes a monograph series entitled the Michigan Papers in Japanese Studies. The Bentley Historical Library holds only one volume in this series-- Is There Enough Business To Go Around?: Overcapacity In The Auto Industry, number 16. It will be found under the heading "Monographs".

This subseries also includes a newsletter entitled Newsletter. The fall issue of this publication is published in both English and Japanese. The Bentley Historical Library holds a complete run of this publication from 1990 to the present. Prior to this publication the Center for Japanese Studies issued a newsletter, entitled CCS-CJS News, with the Center for Chinese Studies. This title was published from 1983 to 1989 at varying intervals. They also published the CCS-CJS News Update from 1986 to 1988. This was generally a monthly newsletter describing the various activities of the centers. There is also one issue of the newsletter entitled CJS Alumni News. This publication was published in 1981.

The Sub-Unit Publications subseries includes publications regarding the fiftieth anniversary celebration and the Summer Session.

The Topical Publications series includes publications which document specific events or activities such as anniversary celebrations, convocations, faculty awards or memorials, graduation exercises, or one-time conferences hosted by the College of Engineering.

The Student Publications series contains publications published by student groups within the College of Engineering. The specific student organizations are arranged alphabetically by name of the organization.

To expedite access to the College of Engineering publications, all materials received after 2017 are added to the collection in chronological order by the year of publication within the Chronologically Arranged Publications series. The series contains Unit, Sub-Unit, Topical, and Student publications.

The Frederick C. Matthaei Jr. papers (24 linear feet, 2 oversize boxes, 1 scrapbook and 2.20 GB) contain the materials of University of Michigan alumnus and Detroit area businessman Frederick C. Matthaei Jr. The materials highlight Matthaei's personal background, interests, philanthropic and outreach work, and his dedication to the University of Michigan. The collection been divided into three series:

The Personal Materials series contains bibliographical information, personal correspondence, scrapbooks, and photographs.

The Projects series contains materials from Matthaei's work with a number of different organizations including the Detroit Olympics Project, the Economic Alliance for Michigan, and the Detroit Renaissance project.

The University of Michigan series includes materials related to Matthaei's term as Regent of the University of Michigan, his involvement in alumni organizations, and general records from the University of Michigan.

The Gargoyle, a University of Michigan humor magazine, was first published in 1909. The collection includes correspondence, ephemera, photographs, reminiscences from Gargoyle staff members, and some original artwork.

The collection includes various materials and papers from former staff members, primarily from John Dobbertin, Jr. Gargoyle editor from 1962-1964. Dobbertin organized many reunions and served as a clearing house for Gargoyle ephemera. Materials include correspondence, ephemera, photographs, reminiscences from Gargoyle staff members, printed material, and original artwork.

The collection has been divided into two series: Manuscript Materials and Printed Materials.

The Martha Cook Building (MCB) opened in the fall of 1915 as the second all-women's dormitory on the University of Michigan campus. It was a gift of Mr. William Wilson Cook, a lawyer-philanthropist from New York City who was born and raised in Hillsdale, Michigan. The Martha Cook Building records are dated from circa 1913-2016 and include blueprints; chronological files; clippings; correspondence; financial records; minutes, particularly of both the MCB's Board of Governors and House Board; publications; reports; scrapbooks; subject files; and visual materials, such as negatives, photographs, and photograph albums.

The Martha Cook Building records (circa 1913-2016) document the activities of those involved with the Martha Cook Building and include blueprints; chronological files; clippings; correspondence; financial records; minutes; reports; scrapbooks; subject files; and visual materials, such as negatives, photographs, and photograph albums.

Significant people and groups featured in this collection include William. W. Cook; various House Directors, such as Sarah Rowe, G.J. Diekema, Olive Chernow, Josette Allen, and Rosalie Moore; the building's Board of Governors and House Board; and Martha Cook Building students and alumnae. The Michigan Alumni Cheerleaders Association was founded in 1967 to provide former male cheerleaders an opportunity to cheer at Homecoming games. Records of the organization including newsletters, bylaws, articles, and photographs.
