Records, 1913-1992

Rrecords are divided between the station's first two administrators, and materials reflecting the broadcast activity of the station, such as radio scripts, correspondence, and other materials pertaining to program production. Because there was broadcast activity for more than twenty years prior to the establishment of WUOM, the records in a particular series, such as "Director's Files," are broken into "pre-WUOM" or "WUOM." In general, arrangement is topical, with records arranged chronologically within folders. Topical files include broadcast awards, bids for radio equipment, technical specifications for broadcasting, service area maps, and correspondence with the FCC.

Director's Files

Director's Files: Waldo Abbot (2.25 linear ft.). The records of Waldo Abbot, the university's first Director of Broadcasting, are a small but important source for tracing the development of radio broadcasting at the University of Michigan and the establishment of a non-commercial, educational radio station. Because Abbot was also well-known as a leader in the field of educational broadcasting, his papers offer insight into the development of the industry and the leadership role played by the University of Michigan Broadcasting Service.
