This collection documents the personal research done by Philip Everette Bursley between 1939-1954 on the birth places and final resting places of five of the founders of the University of Michigan, as well as the first eight presidents of the university.

The Visual Material series consists of around 0.3 linear feet of material from 1939-1940 located in two boxes, and includes photographs and a scrapbook. The photographs document the birth places and the resting places of the early founders and presidents of the University of Michigan, as well as reproductions of photos. Many of the photographs were taken by Philip Everette Bursley during his research travels. The scrapbook is the product of Bursley's research, and contains duplicate photos and select research material organized together in one physical place.
