The Abraham Heiny account book is made up of the accounts of Jackson, Indiana, blacksmith Abraham Heiny between 1834 and 1843. Heiny's accounts include extensive records related to making horseshoes, but also making and sharpening ploughs, shovels, and scythes; making chains and nails; mending wagons and tires; and many other tasks.

Biographical / Historical:

Abraham Heiny was born on November 23, 1801, to parents Samuel and Barbara Stern Heiny in Donegal, Pennsylvania. He married Rebecca Burkett (1813-1863) on October 28, 1830, in Wayne County, Indiana, and the couple had at least five children. He worked as a farmer and blacksmith, lived in Jackson, Indiana, and died on March 26, 1887.
