Michie also wrote a letter to Sterne A. Mason regarding Stanton's admission to the academy.

Scope and Content:

This collection is made up of 16 letters that Stanton A. Mason wrote to his parents, Sterne A. and Nancy Sage Mason of Windsor, New York, while attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, in the early 1870s. He wrote about many aspects of life at the academy, including camping trips, drills, academics, and his finances. He occasionally mentioned his demerits, class standing, examinations, and courses. Biographical / Historical:

Stanton Augustus Mason was born on September 11, 1852, the son of Sterne A. Mason (1814-1901) and Nancy Sage Mason (1825-1888). After graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1875, he served as a lieutenant and captain in the 4th United States Cavalry. He died on March 9, 1891.
