This album (16cm x 12cm) contains 36 carte-de-visite and two tintype portraits of members of the Hubbell family, Van Allen family, Lynes family, and others. The Hubbell and Lynes families lived in northern and central New York, and the Van Allen family lived in Janesville, Wisconsin. Formal studio portraits show men, women, and children of various ages, and some individuals are pictured more than once. Most of the photographs are labeled, and labels exist for some items that are no longer present. The covers are bound in green cloth, with a decorative design in relief.
Elijah Hubbell (d. 1847) of Danbury, Connecticut, and his wife, Hannah Fields (d. 1837), had six children: Nicholas, Addison (b, 1795), Nancy, Homer, Elez B. (d. 1853), and Philo F. (1806-1879). Addison Hubbell and his wife, Nancy Green, lived in Westville, New York, and had a son, Melville Green Hubbell. Melville Hubbell and his wife, Elizabeth Stowell, had two children, Nancy and John.
Elez B. Hubbell and his wife, Abigail Ransom, lived in Norwich, New York. Their children were Ransom, Fernando, and Marshall. Elez B. Hubbell and his second wife, Martha Brown, had one daughter, Annah. Ransom Hubbell and his wife, Julia Perry, had one son, Elez M.
Philo F. Hubbell lived in Middlefield, New York. In 1838, he married Miranda Ransom, who had a sister named Nancy. Their children were Albina (b. 1840), Fancelia A. (b. 1842), Noah E. (b. 1845), Nancy R. (b. 1848), and Otto M. (b. 1859).
Matthew Van Allen (b. 1824), a native of Kinderhook, New York, moved to Wisconsin in 1849. On September 14, 1852, he married Elizabeth Ransom, the daughter of Asa Ransom and Hannah Green. Their three children were Eber, Edwin T., and Kittie.
William Henry Lynes and his wife Fanny lived in Otsego County, New York, with their three children: May, Nettie, and Kittie (or Kitty).
