The collection consists of copy print photographs and copy negatives of views along the Platte River, Michigan; a photograph of a catch of grayling; photos of lumbering in Benzie county, Michigan; and portraits of individuals associated with the establishment of the Michigan Department of Conservation.
Clarence Martin Taube was born in 1912. He and received his Bachelor of Arts from Kalamazoo College in 1934. He later worked as a biologist for the Institute for Fisheries Research, a cooperative unit of both the University of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Conservation. Although organizationally housed within the department's Firsh Division (later renamed the Fisheries Division), the institute was established by the University of Michigan's Board of Regents in 1930 and physically located in the university's Museums Building (it remains on the Ann Arbor campus as of 2020). The Michigan Department of Conservation changed its name to the Michigan Department of Natural resources (DNR) in 1968.
Taube authored or coauthored numerous reports while working at both the Michigan Department of Conservation and Michigan DNR. These reports addressed topics that included Michigan lake and stream mapping projects, fish surveys and fishery management for various bodies of water in the state (primarily lakes), and Michigan's Platte River, particularly as relating to the river's salmon and trout populations. He also authored several of the institute's biennial reports. He passed away in Chelsea, MI in 2009.
