Scope and Content:: The collection consists of copy print photos of Civil War veterans from Cleon Township (Manistee County, Michigan) and records identifying them.
Biographical / Historical:: Herman Alvin Stiver was born in Cleon Township, Mich. on October 19, 1920 to Robert and Jessie (Bowman) Stiver. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy and also took University of Michigan extension correspondence courses (from circa 1944-1947). Stiver would later work as a post office clerk and postmaster. He passed away on May 23, 2017 in Fruitport Charter Township, Mich.
Acquisition Information:: Donated by Herman Stiver (donor no. 7176 ) in March 1985.
