Silas J. McGregor (1874-1954) was the Captain of Company E of the 34th Michigan Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War. Consists of photos of Iron Mountain, Michigan and, soldiers, including one taken in front of the Central House Hotel. Also includes photos, dated circa 1910-1919, of hydraulic power works in Quinnesec, Michigan.

Scope and Content:

The Silas J. McGregor photograph collection consists of photos of Iron Mountain, Michigan, soldiers, including one taken in front of the Central House Hotel. Also includes photos, dated circa 1910-1919, of hydraulic power works in Quinnesec, Michigan.

Biographical / Historical:

Silas J. McGregor was born in Ishpeming, Mich. in 1874. He served as the Captain of Company E of the 34th Michigan Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War and participated in the Siege of Santiago. McGregor worked as a foreman for the Dessau Mining Company in 1903-1919, and served as a deputy commissioner of the Michigan Department of Labor and Industry in 1927 and 1939. Silas J. McGregor passed away in Iron Mountain, Mich. in 1954.
