The collection consists of a group portrait of the Sigma Chi fraternity and snapshots of University of Michigan football coach Fielding Yost visiting the Sigma Chi house.
Floyd Arthur Wilson was born in 1876 in Vernon, Mich. to Farwell A. Wilson and Ann W. Hoover Wilson. Wilson and his parents later moved to Ann Arbor.
He enrolled in the University of Michigan after graduating from Ann Arbor High School in 1896. Due to the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, Wilson enrolled in Company D of the 34th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He fought in Santiago de Cuba and spent a year recovering from malaria acquired during his military service. Wilson matriculated to the University of Michigan in 1899 and received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Michigan's Law School in 1902.
After receiving his degree, Wilson moved to Saginaw, Mich. and began practicing law with James Davitt's law firm. He also joined both the Saginaw County Bar Association—later serving as its secretary for many years—and the Michigan State Bar Association. In 1903, Wilson left Davitt's firm and partnered with Thomas G. Baillie to form the short-lived Baillie & Wilson. After that firm dissolved, Wilson established his own practice.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Wilson was involved in several Masonic organizations (such as Saginaw Lodge No. 77), local organizations (e.g., the East Saginaw Club), the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and the University of Michigan Union. His political activities included chairing Saginaw's city committee.
Floyd A. Wilson passed away on April 8, 1964.
