Scope and Content:: This collection consists of portraits of members, mainly officers, of the 27th Michigan Infantry during the Civil War.
Biographical / Historical:: The 27th Regiment, Michigan Infantry was organized at Port Huron, Ovid, and Ypsilanti, Michigan and mustered on April 10, 1863. The regiment was mustered out of service on July 26, 1865. The commanders of the regiment were Colonel Byron M. Cutcheon and Colonel Charles Waite. The regiment had 10 officers and 215 enlisted men who were killed in action or mortally wounded as well as 3 officers and 204 enlisted men who died of disease. The total number of casualties was 432 people.
