Background

Scope and Content:

Two oversize photographs (original and copy) depicting Company A, 339th United States Infantry, which served in the Allied intervention in Northern Russia, 1918-1919, also known as the "Polar Bear Expedition." The original photograph was taken in June 1919 in Brest, France when the Company returned from Russia.

Biographical / Historical:

Howard S. Saunders (1887-1937) was a resident of Port Huron, Michigan, and served as a corporal in Company A, 339th United States Infantry, during the Polar Bear Expedition to Northern Russia in 1918-1919.

Donated by Ann Randall Kendrick (donor no. 11440 ) in February 2016
