The collection is an oral history interview--documented via a 34-page transcript and as well as a recording on two CDs--with University of Michigan Professor Richard Crawford. The interview deals exclusively with the 1965 University of Michigan Jazz Band tour of Central and South America.
Fosler-Lussier was born on July 26, 1969. She received her B.A. in music from the University of Pennsylvania (1991), followed by an M.A. (1994) and a Ph.D. (1999), both in music, from the University of California, Berkley. She also studied at the University of Hamburg as a Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) scholar from 1991-1992.
After receiving her Ph.D., Fosler-Lussier worked as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer at Princeton University (2000-2003). She arrived at Ohio State University in 2003 as a visiting professor in the School of Music. By 2016, she had attained the rank of full professor.
Fosler-Lussier has published several articles and books over the years, including Music in America's Cold War Diplomacy (2015). Additionally, she has received several awards from Ohio State University, including the School of Music's Distinguished Scholar Award (2009), Distinguished Teaching Award (2011, 2019), and Distinguished Scholar Award (2017). She is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Musicological Society.
Richard Crawford is a University of Michigan graduate and Professor at U-M School of Music. He joined U-M faculty in 1961. In 1965, Crawford served as the U-M Jazz Band's faculty advisor during the Band's tour of Central and South America.
