The collection contains meeting minutes and Action Journals, correspondence, public hearing summaries, phone messages, notes, calendars, agendas, television and radio transcripts, testimony, calendars, agendas, pamphlets, press releases, election results, newspaper clippings, public statements and remarks, and photographs about the 1961-1962 Michigan Constitutional Convention, or Con-Con. There is also a Saginaw County Circuit Court jury summons card. Besides the jury summons card, the collection materials focus on Charles Anspach running as a delegate and his contributions to Con-Con.
Biography:
Dr. Charles L. Anspach (1895-1977), Republican, was a delegate for Isabella and Clare Counties representative districts for the 1961-1962 Michigan Constitutional Convention, also known as Con-Con. At Con-Con, Anspach held various roles including First Vice Chair of the Education Committee, and members of the Public Information and Emerging Problems Committees. From 1939-1959, Anspach was the fifth President of Central Michigan University. He and Mary Fisher married in 1916.
Claud R. Erickson was the Chair of the Miscellaneous Provisions and Schedule Committee. James K. Pollock was the Chair of the Declaration of Rights, Suffrage and Election Committee. Stephen S. Nisbet was the President of the 1961-1962 Michigan Constitutional Convention. John R. Dethmers was a Justice of the Michigan State Supreme Court. Publications and archival collections about the 1961-1962 Michigan Constitutional Convention can be found in other collections in the Clarke and at other institutions in the state of Michigan including the State Library of Michigan and Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan.
Maria (Oxtoby) Tanner helped create the Saginaw County League of Women Voters.
