Organizational History:

Central Michigan University’s (CMU) current College of Education and Human Services is the product of over 100 years of development at CMU. In 1892, CMU was the Central Michigan Normal School. All courses were designed to train and educate students to become public school teachers. CMU operated its own training school and rural and extension courses. Over time, CMU expanded its courses and departments to become a full-fledged university. Still, most CMU graduates are teachers. Today, the College of Education, Health, and Human Services offers a variety of degrees linked to teaching; education administration; human environmental studies; physical education and sport; recreation, parks, and leisure services administration; and teacher education and professional development.
