Janis

3.75 Linear Feet

This series contains materials related to an unproduced biographical film about Janis Joplin, to have been written and produced by Nancy Savoca and Rich Guay. The scripts and script notes series consists of several iterations of the script, written by Nancy Savoca and Francine Prose, as well as outlines and outside feedback. The production documents series includes material related to music rights, casting, finances, and other aspects of the film. Nancy Savoca assembled significant research sources while developing the film, including interviews with Joplin's family, friends, and colleagues; photographs of a scrapbook kept by Laura Joplin; and articles and book chapters about Joplin, blues and rock and roll music, and the culture of the 1960s. The final series includes a small number of articles about the proposed film and a collection of bracelets used as part of a pitch packet sent to potential production studios.
