Papers documenting the professional life and advocacy of Hanes Walton, an eminent professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan. Collection includes correspondence, book reviews, dissertations produced under his guidance, materials demonstrating Walton's participation in university minority advocacy committees and publications, course syllabi and exams, oral histories and statistics gathered in the course of Walton's research, and files pertaining to his role as a supporter of historically black colleges and universities in the United States. Materials in the Hanes Walton papers will be of particular interest to those seeking to understand one of the nation's preeminent African American political scientists as academician, teacher, and advocate; the collection's contents also illuminate broader questions of minority education, political participation by African Americans, and the process of scholarly publication in the United States. Although Walton enjoyed a career of more than forty years at four collegiate institutions, the coverage provided by his collection begins in the late 1980s and addresses his time at Savannah State College and the University of Michigan. Materials include drafts of works and reviews, research material, and correspondence. Also, video recordings of tributes to Walton by his University of Michigan colleagues, as well as of the 2015 memorial lecture in his name.

Episcopal clergyman at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Ypsilanti, Michigan; also local historian of Washtenaw County, Michigan

The Pennington papers relates primarily to his activities with the Washtenaw County Historic District Commission. Other materials concern general Episcopal Church activities in Inkster and Ypsilanti, Michigan. Of special interest are the historical research papers prepared by Pennington on Episcopal and Ypsilanti topics.

Material received with the 2014 accession mostly include records related to the St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

Berkley, Michigan insurance executive, poet and composer, and active alumnus of the University of Michigan; contain papers relating to activities of the class of 1911, to his involvement in the University of Michigan Club of Detroit, and to his interest in Michigan football, especially the career of coach Fielding H. Yost; also scrapbooks, and manuscripts of poetry and song lyrics.

Fred Lawton contain material relating to activities of the class of 1911, to his involvement in the University of Michigan Club of Detroit, and to his interest in Michigan football, especially the career of coach Fielding H. Yost; also scrapbooks, and manuscripts of poetry and song lyrics. Sociologist, a founder of the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, specialist in scientific population sampling. Biographical and autobiographical information; including some details on service with Abraham Lincoln Brigade; University of Michigan administrative files; department of sociology course materials; files relating to summer programs in sampling techniques for foreign statisticians; papers on sampling and related topics; files from his association with the Institute for Social Research; organizational files and correspondence.

The papers of Professor Leslie Kish relate primarily to his activities as a university professor and to his research interests. Included as well is an extensive run of his various writings. The papers date from 1952 to 2001 and are divided into six series: Biographical Information, University of Michigan Administrative and Course Materials, Papers and Presentations, Institute of Social Research, Organizations and Activities, and Personal and Professional Correspondence.

Photographs relating to Detroit and to Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit.

The collection consists of copyprints made from color slides taken by Mark C. Stevens, secretary-treasurer of Elmwood Cemetery. Included are views of Detroit, the neighborhood around the cemetery, scenery within the cemetery, and gravestones, monuments, and markers. The collection also includes a transcript of commentary made by Stevens on each of the photographs.

The archives of the Pioneer Band Association document the history of the bands of Ann Arbor High School. Although Ann Arbor at this writing in 2012 has three high schools, these files primarily concern the Pioneer High School Band. The materials have been arranged into the following series: Class Files, People Files, Subject Files, Band Notes and related material, Visual Materials, Sound Recordings, Digital Materials, and Miscellaneous. Even though the records date from 1912, the bulk of the collection dates from the late 1960s. Much of the earlier material is copied from yearbooks and various archival resources. The People series includes research notes about different band members and notes from interviews with individuals who participated with the band in some capacity.

Professor of speech and drama at the University of Michigan, 1904-1949; papers document Hollister's teaching and development of the speech and drama programs at the university, include correspondence, course material and lecture notes, papers and photographs relating to dramatic productions, and some family material.

The Richard D. T. Hollister papers, 1887-1960, document his career as a professor of speech and theater and the development of the Department of Speech and theatrical productions at the University of Michigan. Correspondents include: Thomas E. Black, Marion L. Burton, John R. Effinger, Edward H. Kraus, J. Raleigh Nelson, James M. O'Neill, Theodore Roosevelt, Alexander G. Ruthven, and Thomas C. Trueblood. The Hollister papers are divided into three series; Richard D. T. Hollister, Hollister family and Photographs.

Industrial hygienist, consultant and lecturer in environmental and industrial health in the School of Public Health of the University of Michigan. Logs of daily activities, 1936-1961, correspondence relating to consulting projects, speech and lecture material, and research files on lead poisoning and the effects of air conditioning on workers; history of occupational health at the University of Michigan, 1873-1970, history of the American Academy of Occupational Medicine, 1946-1956; history of the Bernardino Ramazzini Society, 1942-1978; study of automobile body industry in Detroit, 1936; and related photographs.

The papers of Carey Pratt McCord represent only a fragment of what once must have been a larger body of papers and consequently document only a small portion of his varied and active career. The collection has been arranged into the following series: Personal; Correspondence; Speeches and lectures; Writings and related; Research files; Miscellaneous; and Photographs.

The Howard M. Ehrmann Papers document the period 1927-1968, the length of Ehrmann's tenure at the University of Michigan. The collection includes correspondence relating in part to his chairmanship of the department of history at the University of Michigan, materials used in his classes such as tests and syllabi, materials documenting his activities as reviewer and editor, and materials documenting his writings, including a manuscript for a book The Second World War: A Political History of the Immediate Origins of the War, 1939-1941 which was never published. Of special interest are two folders of autographs of 20th century political figures such as Ralph Bunche, Herbert Hoover, and Alger Hiss, which were gathered by Professor Ehrmann when he was arranging a conference on the postwar world.
