The records of the East Michigan Environmental Action Council (EMEAC) comprise 8 linear feet of materials spanning the years 1969-1989. The records have been retained in the order maintained by the organization and consist of 5 series: Administrative, Grants and Proposals, Litigation, Topical, and Great Lakes and Water Resources Planning Commission. The collection documents the founding of EMEAC, its development and operation as an important grass-roots organization, as well as a variety of environmental issues affecting southeast Michigan.

Administrative, 1969-1987

Administrative series (1 linear foot) includes annual reports, board minutes, materials related to the organization's history, and copies of the newsletter Target: Earth. Annual reports span from 1970 to 1989, although those for the 1980s are incomplete. Reports range from one to four pages, and summarize the council's activities, provide some budgetary information, and describe legislation that was either supported or opposed. Minutes are from the Board of Directors meetings, and range from 1969 to 1984. The minutes from 1969 are from the Junior League of Birmingham, Michigan, and document the first steps taken to form EMEAC. Later minutes record administrative activity, provide budget statements, and include reports from sub-committees regarding issues to focus on with recommendations for future action. Council histories are brief, primarily covering its founding and first few years. Several of these histories have appeared in Target: Earth, the official publication of EMEAC. The newsletter provides pertinent environmental news and includes announcements of upcoming events. It also provides legislative updates and editorial statements. The run of newsletters in this collection is sporadic for the early years, with several volumes missing entirely. It is, however, complete for the years 1985-1987.

The Integrated Premedical-Medical Program, commonly called Inteflex, combined undergraduate and medical school education into one specialized curriculum program at the University of Michigan. Inteflex was conceived to allow an integrated, flexible program through a liberal arts education offered by the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts while also obtaining a medical degree through the Medical School. Inteflex began as a six-year program in 1971, expanded to seven years in 1982, and again to eight years in 1994. The Inteflex program accepted its last entering group of students in 1998.

The Integrated Premedical-Medical Program (Inteflex) Records are divided into six series: Administrative, Committees, Curricula, Reports, Students, and Visual Materials. An earlier two linear foot collection came to the library in 1996. Due to the size of the accessions following the program's discontinuance, the older records were absorbed to make one holistic record group. Yearly classes are known by several names throughout the papers. The two most commonly used classifications are by the year the class entered Inteflex and also by the year of graduation from the Medical School. Classes may also be known by their status in the program, such as I4 meaning the student is in the fourth year of Inteflex. To create the least confusion possible, classes within the finding aid are filed under the Medical School graduation year.

Administrative, 1972-2000

The Administrative series, 1972-2000 (1.0 linear feet), comprises materials used to manage and operate the Inteflex program. Included is a large volume of chronological correspondence sent out by the Inteflex administrative office including letters to prospective, current, and former students, other units, and people outside of the university. These files show the history and yearly activities of the staff. The series also contains collected data, director correspondence, office procedure manuals, and faculty retreat records.

Includes the correspondence and topical files of former Director Ted Spencer and Associate Director Marilyn McKinney, Board of Admissions meeting minutes, admissions guidelines and related material, minutes and data of the Enrollment Working Group, and audiovisual and photographic material. Also included are numerous publications produced or collected by the office, such as newsletters, reports, brochures, and procedures.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions (University of Michigan) records documents the activities of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, particularly its leadership and outreach activities. Material is dated from 1911-2022 and includes the correspondence and topical files of former Director Ted Spencer and Associate Director Marilyn McKinney, Board of Admissions meeting minutes, admissions guidelines and related material for various university units, minutes and data associated with the Enrollment Working Group, and audiovisual and photographic material. Also included are numerous publications produced or collected by the office, including newsletters, reports, brochures, administrative materials, applications, information on recruitment programs, transfer and application guides, recruiting videotapes, and admissions data reports aimed at prospective students, admitted students, transfer students, international students, high school guidance counselors, as well as faculty and staff.

The Administrative Series (6.35 linear feet) includes a bound volume of Board of Admissions meeting minutes, the correspondence and topical files of Ted Spencer and Marilyn McKinney, and various related administrative topical files. Major topics in this series include budget material, the National Association for College Admission Counselors (NACAC), News and Information Services clipping packets/reports, Ted Spencer's calendars/planners, strategic data planning, and Management Team meeting material.

A coalition of state and local human rights organizations, served as resource, lobbying and educational agent for organizations and individuals engaged in struggle to eliminate all forms of discrimination, gay and lesbian rights became an early focus of MOHR. Records document founding and administration of the organization and numerous, legislative lobbying efforts and other activities.

The records of the Michigan Organization for Human Rights, measuring 10 linear feet, were donated to the library by M.O.H.R. in four accessions: May 1983, February and September 1994, and September 1998. The audio materials span the time period 1973 to 1980, while the manuscript materials cover the period from 1977 through the disbanding of the organization in Spring, 1994. The records are arranged in eight series: Administrative, Correspondence, Topical, Clippings, the Robert Lundy Papers (two series), Visual Materials, and Audio Materials. The series provide documentation of the founding, growth, and topical interests of a grassroots political and social organization, including the stresses involving fundraising and personality conflicts that occurred as M.O.H.R. experienced rapid growth during the late-1970s and early-1980s.

The two Robert Lundy series (1970-1995, 4 linear feet) were donated to the library in several accessions over a period of years. There is some overlap as each series contains files on legislation, files relating to his work with M.O.H.R., and topical files on issues organizations and events with which he was active in his capacity as M.O.H.R.'s legislation officer.

Administrative, 1977-1994

The Administrative series (1977-1994, 1 linear foot) contains annual reports, meeting agendas and minutes, and correspondence relating to the activities of the M.O.H.R. administrative board (which changed official names three times) and several committees thereof. It also contains a small amount of summary financial reports and fliers and information relating to the M.O.H.R. annual meeting, as well as office policies and procedures. This series provides excellent documentation concerning M.O.H.R.'s rapid transformation from a relatively small, issue-oriented umbrella organization into a large political and social organization for all southern Michigan lesbians and gay men. It also provides information regarding the internal strife which resulted in several major reorganizations and the eventual disbanding of M.O.H.R.

Established in 1980 as part of the Center for Continuing Education of Women (now CEW+), the Women in Science and Engineering Program (WISE) has sought to increase the number of women who major in and seek advanced degrees in mathematics, science and technical fields. WISE has offered internships, resource guides, programming, and the Warner-Lambert lecture series towards this goal. In addition to supporting women at the collegiate level, WISE offers a variety of K-12 programs for students of any gender identity, although they are primarily aimed at women and girls. Records include correspondence and reports; physical and digital materials related to programming efforts, including the Warner-Lambert lecture series and Girls in Science and Engineering summer camp; funding proposals; research papers and talks by WISE staff members; and clippings and documents related to the establishment of WISE. Planning files for the Girls and Science and Technology (GASAT) IV Conference 1987, digital transcripts and recordings from an oral history project that sought to preserve the history of University of Michigan alumnae in the sciences and engineering, and material related to Smartgirl.com as well as the Women in Engineering Office are also included.

The WISE records (11.3 linear feet and digital files (online)) reflect the changing approaches that WISE took to encourage and support women in the sciences and engineering, as well as the changing organizational structure of the program. Specific formats include correspondence, digital photographs and videos, grant applications and program proposals, oral histories, research studies and talks, publications, reports, web archives, and background material on women and sciences at the University of Michigan. Prominently represented in the collection are WISE's various programming efforts, the Women's History in Michigan Science and Engineering Oral History Project, and the Women in Engineering Office (WIE).

The Administrative series (2 linear feet and digital files (online)) is an alphabetically arranged sequence providing insight into the day-to-day operation and structure of the WISE program. Records describe the history and creation of the WISE program, and also include correspondence and documents relating to early funding arrangements. Also of note are position papers and listings of program activities and accomplishments that describe the program's early endeavors and justify its purpose and existence.

The American Citizens for Justice, (or the Asian American Center for Justice), is a Detroit-based Asian American civil rights group founded in reaction to the fatal beating of Vincent Chin, a Chinese-American man. The ACJ later evolved into an organization advocating for the rights of Asian-Americans in general. Records consist of meeting minutes, financial reports, correspondence, publications and grants, Vincent Chin related information, legal case files, health project files, as well as topical files and audiovisual material.

The American Citizens for Justice record group details the administrative functions as well as the activities and goals of the organization. Records consist of meeting minutes, financial reports, correspondence, publications and grants, Vincent Chin related information, legal case files, health project files, as well as topical files.

Researchers should be aware that there is significant overlap between the Roland Hwang Files and the other series in this collection, and so should consult all appropriate groupings as needed.

Administrative, 1982-2003

The Administrative series (3.5 linear feet) details the overall governing and planning structure of the ACJ including constitution and bylaws, executive board meeting minutes and agenda, financial reports and statements, incoming correspondence (1984-2003) and some outgoing correspondence (1988-1990). Meeting minutes and director's reports are especially useful for the background and planning of ACJ projects and to get an overall sense of the ACJ's goals.

Non-profit organization providing energy efficiency information and services to homes and businesses in Michigan. Name changed in 2009 to Michigan Energy Options. Collection includes administrative and financial files; records of grants, programs, and services; documentation of the Energy Demonstration House; records of the organization’s work with regional task forces and issue advocacy; seminar and curriculum development materials; printed brochures and newsletters; press releases and clippings; and photographs and slides of staff and volunteers, the Energy Demonstration House, and exhibits and events.

The Urban Options records provide an in-depth look at the work of this non-profit energy efficiency organization from its founding in 1978 until 2002. The collection documents how Urban Options was managed as it grew and integrated new services; how programs were developed and implemented; how the organization delivered its message of energy efficiency and sustainability through publications and media outreach, and how it sought institutional and individual support for its work. The records are arranged into eight series.

Administrative and Financial, 1978-2007

The Administrative and Financial series documents the management of the organization, and includes board of directors' minutes, planning materials, financial statements, annual reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. The bulk of the correspondence in this series consists of letters sent by Executive Director LeRoy Harvey and a smaller number sent by his successor Patrick Hudson. There are some incoming letters as well, but the majority of incoming correspondence is filed by the program or activity to which it pertains.

Correspondence and other papers dealing with departmental plans, reviews and organization, buildings and laboratories, staff recruitment, research, impact of World War I and personal affairs of various staff members especially when they were studying in Europe. Correspondence includes letters of John W. Langley, Robert A. Millikan, Harrison Randall, James M. Cork, Ernest Lawrence, Walter Stevens, John O. Reed, Henry Carhart, Karl Guthe, Fred Hodges, Horace R. Crane, and others. Also includes correspondence of chairmen Daniel Sinclair, Richard H. Sands, and Lawrence W. Jones. Efforts to locate a superconducting super collider in Michigan in the 1980s are well documented in these records.

The Department of Physics records contain budget sheets, clippings, committee minutes, correspondence, departmental review reports, organizational charts, personnel records, and photographs. The records are most informative in the administrative proceedings of the department. They are least informative in curricular and research areas. The records span the years 1873-1995 and are arranged into four series: Administrative Files, Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, Research, and Awards and Special Events and L3 Project. Although there are 19th century records present, the bulk of the records cover the period from 1954 to 1991.

Correspondence, 1889-1932, 1964-1991

The Correspondence subseries (1889-1932, 1964-1991, 2 linear feet) contains Departmental Correspondence, 1889-1932; and Chairman's Correspondence, 1964-1991. The early departmental correspondence includes letters of John W. Langley, Robert A. Millikan, Harrison M. Randall, James M. Cork, Ernest Lawrence, Walter Stevens, John O. Reed, Henry Carhart, Karl Guthe, H. R. Crane, and others. Correspondence from 1917 and 1918 documents World War I submarine detection research done under Harrison M. Randall. The Chairman's Correspondence is dominated by the papers of Lawrence W. Jones, chairman from 1982 to 1987, and covers the daily affairs of the department. The Jones correspondence also includes material predating his tenure as chairman.

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan was established in 1897 following a consolidation of the Society of Alumni with the alumni societies of the professional schools. The Michigan Alumnus became the association's official organ. As the organization grew, local chapters were established and provided greater structure. The records include files pertaining to the Alumni Association's administrative office and various chapters and interests groups. This includes national and international U-M alumni and alumnae clubs, the Alumnae Council, the Society of Alumni, the University of Michigan Black Alumni (UMBA-formerly the African American Alumni Council (AAC)), and the Reunion of Black Graduates (RBG). The records include but are not limited to correspondence, minutes, reports, and survey responses, audiovisual materials, digital files, photographs, and publications.

The collection spans 1845-2001. The textual records of the Alumni Association (boxes 1-133) are largely unprocessed, and are described in only general terms in this finding aid. Exceptions include files maintained by Marjorie Williams who served as the vice chair and chair of the Alumnae Council from 1960 to 1962, Class Reunion files, and Topical Files.

Additions to the collection (boxes 168-171) incorporate records, audiovisual materials, photographs, and publications pertaining to the University of Michigan Black Alumni (UMBA). To note are materials specifically related to the African American Alumni Council (AAAC)-formerly the UMBA, and the Reunion of Black Graduates (RBG). This includes information about the Dr. Leonard F. Sain Award, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. scholarship and symposium, the Camp Michigania retreat, and annual reunion for black graduates photographs, planning materials, and souvenir books.

Administrative Files, 1897-1999, undated

Administrative Files (boxes 1-53; 55-67; 124-125; 131; 157; and 168) includes correspondence (boxes 1-67; and 168) spans the period from 1897-1999 when the various alumni and professional societies were combined into the Alumni Association. The basic arrangement of the correspondence is in chronological periods and thereunder in a basic alphabetical sequence. The bulk of the correspondence is that of the Alumni Association General Secretary (later Executive Director) although correspondence of field secretaries and other alumni officers is also present. Subject access to the correspondence is largely non-existent. In order to make use of these records some familiarity with key individuals or events in the history of the university is required. Much of the correspondence is routine in nature, pertaining to more mundane matters like payment of dues, subscriptions to the Michigan Alumnus and requests for football tickets. Interspersed among the mundane letters, however, are news items and reminiscences from alumni, information on various class memorials and responses to various Alumni Association requests such as names of alumni who fought in the Civil War, Spanish American War and later wars. Information on films and recordings detailing the work of the university which were made available to alumni groups is also interspersed among the correspondence.

Of particular note is correspondence surrounding the building of Alumni Memorial Hall (now the Art Museum). Built during 1908-1910, the planning, design, and intended use of the building was frequently discussed during the years from 1903 to 1912. Much of this discussion and fundraising took place at the same time a similar campaign was underway for the Michigan Union. Conflict between the two proposals as well as confusion among alumni solicited for funds by both campaigns is evident in the correspondence covering this period. Issues of the Michigan Alumnus during this period also help to frame the issues surrounding this controversy. Additional documentation on building projects is available in the Special Projects and Subjects series. Other key eras such as World War II are reflected in extensive correspondence with alumni in the armed services. Other materials within this series include alumni directories (including Black, Hispanic, Mexican, and Puerto Rican alumni), a list of directors and officers of the Alumni Association, meeting minutes, and retreat documemtation.

The Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries began in 1909 as an organization offering food, shelter, and church services to the homeless of Detroit. Since then it has grown in size and scope as it now offers treatment for addiction, mental health services, and more throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area. The bulk of the collection includes project reports, program meeting minutes, photographs, and audio and video recordings relating to the organization. The collection also includes files of the organization's leaders administrators: Chad Audi, Donald DeVos, Barbara Willis, among others.

The Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries records primarily include materials dating from the 1980s up through the 2010s. A portion of the collection documents the early years, between the early and mid-1900s. The collection includes administrative records, project reports, as well as photographs and other publicity material.

The Administrative Files series documents the decisions of high level administrators and committees regarding the planning and management of the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries. A large portion of the series consists of material from the Board of Directors, including a complete run of minutes from the mid to late 1980s, as well as minutes from their retreats and special meetings. Also included are annual, financial, and strategic planning meeting reports.

An area of note within the series includes records of past presidents and organization officers. Material related to Chad Audi can be found in the Chad Audi series.

Material from COO Barbara Willis document the DRMMs work with external organizations and development efforts. The series includes one file of material noting the recognition recieved by Donald DeVos for his work with the organization during the 1990s.
