The Unit Publications series contains annual reports, brochures, bulletins, flyers, histories, newsletters, posters, proceedings, programs, reports, and textbooks. The annual reports document the activities of the department from 1967 to 1979 and contain summaries of departmental research for this time period. There is a department directory included in the 1990 volume. The researcher will find several departmental histories, including The Department of Electrical Engineering: A 75-Year History, which was written to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the department. In addition there is a long run, from 1979 to 1991, of the weekly internal newsletter Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Newsletter. The Communicator is the department's annual newsletter for alumni, students and staff. The Bentley Historical Library holds issues of this publication from 1992 to 1994. The proceedings are from a seminar honoring Professor William G. Dow in 1964. The researcher will find various reports, as well as two textbooks by Richard K. Personnel
The Personnel series contains files on former faculty members, primarily from the 1950s and 1960s although the content dates from 1946 to 1993.
Institute of Human Biology, 1941-1956
The series Institute of Human Biology, 1941-1956 (1.0 linear feet) includes records regarding phases prior to the formation of an official Department of Human Genetics, from the point at which all work was carried out under the auspices of the Institute of Human Biology. The largest subseries within this series is that of Correspondence and Administrative Material, arranged chronologically by year. These include departmental correspondence of Lee R. Dice (primarily up to and including 1955) and James V. Neel (primarily 1956 forward), but also includes materials regarding courses, research, committee assignments, personnel listings, accounts, proposals, department events, departmental reports, and budget. The files therefore provide a good window on the activities and developments occurring within each given year or range of years. Also of note are a procedures and forms manual from 1946, and one folder of Neel's lecture outlines from the 1940s.
Department of Humanities/English
The Department of Humanities/English of the College of Engineering series (Box 1) is arranged by the committees on which he served: the Ad Hoc Review Committee, the Administrative Committee, the Curriculum Committee. The committee folders cover primarily the period between 1965 to 1975.
Unit Publications
The Publications series (1 linear foot) is divided into three subseries: Unit Publications, Sub-Unit Publications, and Student Publications. The Unit Publications subseries includes brochures, bulletins, flyers, manuals, newsletters, reports, schedules, and yearbooks. The bulletins describe the graduate program of Industrial and Operations Engineering from 1969 to 1995. In 1975 the department asked its graduates to fill out a single sheet of information. This directory, entitled Alumni Biographical Data, includes the graduate's name, address, year of graduation, spouse's name, names of children, present position held and contact information, and a brief biography of activities since graduation. Some alumni expanded the questionnaire to include bibliographies and other information. Under manuals the researcher will find handbooks for both graduate and undergraduate students. The Undergraduate Student Guide documents the undergraduate program from 1980 to 1998. The only newsletter found in this subseries is the IOE Alumni Newsletter. The Bentley Library's holdings include these newsletters from 1986,1989 and from 1990 to 1999. There are departmental review reports from 1977, 1981, and 1986. The researcher will find time schedules for courses taught in IOE from 1986 to 1998. An almost continuous run of undergraduate yearbooks from 1991 to 2000, with the exception of 1993, document student life in the department. These yearbooks include individual photograph of IOE students and candid shots of their social and career-oriented activities.
