Professor of economics and director of the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan, and consultant on China to the U. S. Department of State. The papers of Alexander Eckstein consist of 10.3 linear feet of material. The collection most heavily documents the last twenty-five years of Eckstein's life, roughly the years 1960-1976, although there is some earlier material dating back to World War II. The papers deal almost exclusively with his professional life; there is very little of a personal nature included. Furthermore, the bulk of the collection concerns primarily his work and interest in China, although the section of his writings does contain material on Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. The papers portray Eckstein the scholar rather than Eckstein the professor. For instance there are no materials relating to his term as Director of the China Center at the University of Michigan or to the Chinese Economic Studies project which he directed. The collection is divided into the following major series: Personal, China, Personal Correspondence, Talks, Trips, University of Michigan, Vietnam, Writings, Sound Recordings, and Photographs.

Teaching fellow in political science at the University of Michigan, later foreign service officer with the Division of Philippine Affairs in the Office of Far Eastern Affairs, U. S. Department of State, and professor of diplomacy and world affairs at Occidental College. Academic files, correspondence, papers relating to his work and interest in the Philippine Islands and Indonesia, topical files concerning his various academic interests, and photographs.

The Edward Mill Collection is divided into seven series: Personal; Academic Papers; Correspondence; Far Eastern Materials; Topical File (largely correspondence); Visual Materials; and Microfilmed materials.

Professor of Latin and classical studies at the University of Michigan, 1889-1927, led several archaeological expeditions to Antioch, Carthage and Karanis; papers include correspondence, diaries, photographs and other material relating to his career at Michigan and the expeditions.

The Kelsey papers consist of Correspondence, Papers, Diaries, and Photographs relating to his career at the University of Michigan. There is also a small amount of material on Archaeological Forgeries found in Michigan and photographs and other materials of his son, Easton Kelsey. Subjects include the papyri acquisition of the University library, archeological expeditions to the Near East, and the University Musical Society. In his correspondence written while abroad, Kelsey frequently comments on the world scene with mention, for example, of political conditions in Turkey and the controversy surrounding the Lausanne Treaty.
