Family of Delos A. Blodgett, his son John W. Blodgett, and his grandson John W. Blodgett, Jr., residents of Grand Rapids, Michigan and owners of a series of logging companies active in Michigan, Mississippi, California, Oregon, and Vancouver Island. Correspondence, journals, cash books, ledgers, and maps of family businesses, including the Blodgett Company, Wright-Blodgett Company, Michigan-California Lumber Company, Michigan Timber Company, Hill-Davis Company, and Tidewater Timber Company; also personal correspondence and photographs.

The collection, although still largely unprocessed, has been grouped into different kinds of records. These include correspondence, business records, maps, and photographs.

Student papers, 1930-1987 prepared for classes in history at the University of Michigan (primarily Michigan history class taught by Lewis G. VanderVelde, but also including research papers for classes taught by Sidney Fine and others); topics concern Michigan social and political history; Michigan biography and bibliography; and local community history.

The student papers are organized alphabetically by author in two series, which are similar in date range and topics covered. Topics of papers concern Michigan social and political history; Michigan biography and bibliography; local community history and University of Michigan history. A topical index to the papers is available in the first box of the collection.

Ornithologist and curator of birds in the Museum of Zoology, and professor of zoology at University of Michigan. Correspondence and other papers concerning his interest in birds, his activities with the Wilson Ornithological Club, and his scientific expeditions to Indochina and British Honduras in the late Twenties; and papers on student life at Harvard University, 1922-1925; also photographs.

The Josselyn Van Tyne papers consist of correspondence and other papers concerning his interest in birds, his activities with the Wilson Ornithological Club, and his scientific expeditions to Indochina and British Honduras in the late Twenties; and papers on student life at Harvard University, 1922-1925 and photographs. The collection is arranged into the following series: Correspondence; Other Materials; and Photographs. Correspondents in the collection include Thomas Barbour, Alfred B. Connable, Harold J. Coolidge, Lee R. Dice, Frederick M. Gaige, Harry G. Kipke, David Rockefeller, and Norman A. Wood.

The Photographs are of scientific expeditions to Indochina (1928-1930), Texas (1928-1935), British Honduras and Guatemala (1931), Yucatan, Mexico (1936), and Bylot Island, Northwest Territories, Canada (1950s). The photos include local populations and scenery as well as activities of expedition members. The Guatemala and Yucatan expeditions files contain photos of Mayan ruins, especially Chichén Itzá.

Port Huron, Michigan attorney; officer in the Michigan National Guard beginning in 1905, later Judge Advocate with the U.S. Army during World War I. After the war, Pepper was chief law officer of the MNG where he was advisor during the Flint Sit-Down strike of 1937. Biographical material; correspondence with family and friends concerning in part current events and politics in pre-World War I Canada; correspondence with wife Katherine while serving in France 1918-1919; papers relating to his official responsibilities with the Michigan National Guard, as Judge Advocate, and as member of veterans organizations; include files relating to the Copper Miners' Strike of 1913 and to the Flint Sit-Down strike; also diaries, 1916-1919, of his experiences serving on the Mexican border and in France during the First World War; papers relating to Republican party activities in 1920 and 1924; and photographs.

The Samuel D. Pepper papers cover Pepper's military service and legal career, as well as his relationships with family and friends. The collection provides particularly strong documentation of the impact which Pepper's Michigan National Guard (MNG) service had on personal and professional aspects of his life. The papers are divided into four main series: Personal, Military Activities, Professional and Political Activities, and Photographs.
