Washtenaw County, Michigan minister, local historian and public official; correspondence, sermons, and collected papers relating to the history of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County, Michigan.

Except for a scattering of correspondence and sermon notes, the bulk of the Davis collection relates to the Washtenaw County Pioneer Society and to the history of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Included is correspondence of Ezra and William S. Maynard, biographies of early pioneers, papers relating to the development of the temperance movement in Washtenaw County, the history of Northfield, Sylvan, and Ypsilanti Townships, Michigan; papers, 1881, concerning the First Congregational Church of Salem Township, Michigan; and papers, 1866, concerning the Ann Arbor Sunday School Convention.

Pension papers and other materials concerning his military service; also letter from Lieutenant Charles D. Todd (located near Blaines Cross Roads, Tenn.) about sending Comstock's body home to Adrian, Michigan, from Knoxville, Tennessee, and miscellaneous papers of Lucia Comstock.

Papers collected by Margaret Leutheuser of Ann Arbor, Michigan, relating to ancestor families, notably the Leach, Waterman, and Armstrong families. Civil War materials of Morgan L. Leach, member of the 1st and 9th Michigan Cavalry; farm account books of Edgar and William Armstrong of Mundy Township, Genesee County, Michigan; correspondence of other family members; and scrapbooks containing newspaper accounts of settlement of Leach family in Genesee County, and account of trip of Morgan Leach to Traverse Bay, Michigan, in the 1860s.

Margaret Leutheuser collected a variety of materials pertaining to her ancestors, notably among the Leach, Waterman and Armstrong families. The collection dates from the 1850s to the 1930s, and includes family correspondence, newspaper articles written by Morgan (M.L.) Leach, and farm account books. The materials are arranged in one Family Papers series by the originator/author of the item.

Student commencement oration, 1855 as well as six letters (Nov. 22, 1862-July 31, 1864) written to his wife and children while he was serving in the 9th Iowa Infantry. The letters are chiefly of camp and home affairs.

The McCreery and Fenton families were prominent Genesee county, Michigan residents some of whose members distinguished themselves in local and state government, as soldiers during the Civil War, and in the United States diplomatic service. Papers include diaries, correspondence and other material relating to the Civil War, local and state politics and aspects of diplomatic service in Central and South America.

The McCreery-Fenton family collection documents the individual careers of family members who served their community and their nation in a variety of roles. Through correspondence, diaries and other materials, the researcher will find information pertaining to the Civil War, to the history of Flint and Fenton in Genesee County, Michigan, and to facets of America's diplomatic relations with some of the countries of Central and South America. Arranged by name of the three principal family members represented in the collection - William M. Fenton, William B. McCreery, and Fenton R. McCreery, the papers also include series of general family materials, business records, and photographs.

This microfilm edition of a portion of the McCreery-Fenton family collection includes only materials relating to the Civil War service of William M. Fenton and William B. McCreery.

Microfilm copy of records of quartermaster of Michigan Civil War unit of U.S. Army. Includes reports, muster rolls, equipment inventories, payrolls and other administrative records.

This collection consists of the quartermaster records for Co. F of the 1st Michigan Regiment Infantry, arranged in chronological order. The bulk of the records are from 1863-1864, and include reports for the following: articles lost or destroyed; auditor; clothing, camp and garrison equipage allocation and return; equipment; expenditures; inspection; inventories; muster rolls; orders; ordnance and ordnance stores; pay rolls; stores; and vouchers.

Correspondence (1865-1901), with letters about his Civil War activities (including one written on Dec. 29, 1861 from Camp Lebanon to his parents, which contains a description of his quarters and the accidental burning of his tent); also a record of labor accounts, 1872-1875, military service papers and miscellaneous election tickets and campaign ribbons. Correspondents include: Charles M. Croswell and Fred M. Warner.

Ypsilanti, Michigan, businessman and a soldier in the Eighteenth Michigan Infantry and an officer in the Forty-fourth U.S. Colored Infantry during the Civil War. Includes anutobiographical sketch and reminiscencesof the Civil War; also correspondence and papers relating to war service and subsequent efforts to receive government pension; deed to property; and photographs.

The Morris Stuart Hall papers document the experiences of an officer in the Union Army during the Civil War as well as in its aftermath. In addition to direct observations and personal opinions, the collection provides insight into the role and perception of African American soldiers who fought in the war. The collection is organized into a single series, Military papers.
