The University Library system at the University of Michigan provides information resources and services to faculty, students, staff, and the public, and is comprised of undergraduate, graduate, and subject-oriented divisional collections. The record group includes administrative files of library directors, reports, committee files, financial records, photographs, and publications.

The records of the library of the University of Michigan document the development and administration of the central library. The records include topical files, miscellaneous correspondence and reports, and business record books, 1886-1916; include files of librarians/directors/deans Theodore W. Koch, William W. Bishop, Warner G. Rice, Frederick H. Wagman, Richard Dougherty, Robert M. Warner, Don Riggs, William A. Gosling, and Paul Courant; also assorted papers of earlier librarians, Andrew Ten Brook and Raymond C. Davis.

Assistant professor of nursing and clinical nurse specialist at the University of Michigan. Subject files relating to her professional activities; and photographs.

The papers of Linda Strodtman relate primarily to her work with diabetic patients at the University of Michigan Hospitals and to her more general involvement with Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) during the years, 1970-1985. There is scant material on Strodtman's personal life. There are few documents in the collection relating to her research and teaching duties.

What the collection does document is Strodtman's work with diabetic patients, her involvement with the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center (MDRTC) and Diabetes Center Unit (DCU), and her activities as a CNS. The arrangement of the papers represents a blend of Strodtman's original order and description and series ordered by the processors. While this hybrid arrangement seeks to highlight aspects of her career, the researcher should note that series divisions are not absolute; some materials in the CNS series may relate to the MDRTC and vice versa.

The researcher is advised to be flexible and persistent in using the Strodtman collection; related materials are in separate and distinct areas of the collection. Furthermore, materials related to the MDRTC, the DCU, and nursing in general can be found in other collections held by the Bentley Library: The Diabetes Research and Training Center, School of Nursing, and Medical-Surgical Nursing Area collections all contain related materials.

The papers were received in several accession and several series are subdivided into subseries reflecting multiple accessions.

Professor of chemical and nuclear engineering and director of the Fission Product Laboratory at The University of Michigan. Professional correspondence and reports largely concerning his interest in the use of radiation for preserving food.

The Lloyd Brownell papers consist largely of materials documenting Brownell's food irradiation experiments at the University of Michigan from 1951 to 1954. Other topics include experiments on the effects of radiation on petrochemical processes and pharmaceuticals and Brownell's work in sugar beet processing techniques. Beyond his work as a scientist, the collection also depicts the social climate of mid-1950s America, characterized by popular and industrial faith in progress and the powers of science. The collection has been divided into six series: Biographical/Bibliographical, Correspondence, Conferences, Projects, Articles and Programs, and Clippings.

Professor of Social Work and Psychology at the University of Michigan with teaching and research interests in social work practice for the empowerment and organization of multicultural communities. The Lorraine M. Gutiérrez papers contain courses syllabi, papers, research proposals, and topical files

The Lorraine M. Gutiérrez Papers are comprised of 2.5 linear feet of materials that cover the years 1973-2007. These materials primarily relate to the teaching and research interests of Gutiérrez, Professor of Social Work and Professor of Psychology. The collection is divided into four series: Course Syllabi & Evaluations, Papers, Proposals, and Topical Files.

Professor of mathematics at University of Michigan. Correspondence, printed materials and miscellanea relating to his research in mathematics and the history of science, his interest in collecting historical manuscripts, maps, and rare books, and his personal affairs; also photograph.

The collection has been arranged into the following series: Correspondence, Collected letters of historical personages; Mathematics and cartographical interests; Collecting historical documents (with materials collected by LCK); and miscellaneous.

Professor of conservation in the School of Natural Resources of the University of Michigan. Biographical materials, files relating to his education and to his professional career, and conference papers and talks.

Craine's papers cover his career from the beginning of his professional life as a researcher for the U.S. Government in the field of natural resources management in 1938, to his retirement as a professor emeritus of the University of Michigan in 1974. The series included Biographical Materials, Education, Professional Life, and Papers and Publications.

Professor of political science at University of Michigan, and Democratic city councilman for Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1961-1963. Material concerning his council activities, his work for the Michigan Advisory Committee on Reorganization of State Government, and the Michigan State Science Advisory Board.

The Lynn Eley collection documents his activities as secretary on the Governor's Advisory Committee on Reorganization of State Government, 1958-1963, and his term as Democratic Ann Arbor City Councilman, 1961-1963.

Professor of physical education for women in the School of Education and professor of health education in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. Series in the collection include: biographical information, correspondence, research papers, health education projects and studies, University of Michigan School of Education, University of Michigan School of Public Health, course materials, associations files, and topical files; includes photographs.

The Mabel E. Rugen Papers contain a wealth of information which documents the early years of the University of Michigan's physical education program for women, professional education for teachers of physical education, and the important contributions Rugen made in a field previously dominated by men. The collection has been divided intellectually into eight main series: Correspondence, Research Papers, Health Education Projects and Studies, School of Education, School of Public Health, Course Materials, Associations, and Topical.

Student at the University of Michigan, later lecturer in social work, and active member of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers (LRBW). Materials relating to the Black Action Movement (BAM) strike at the University of Michigan in 1970; papers detailing his involvement with the LRBW, the International Black Appeal (IBA), and other black organizations.

Madison Foster's papers document some of the most important currents of black activism of the 1960s and early 1970s, and provide a unique insight into the history of this period. The collection has been arranged into the following series: Black Action Movement; League of Revolutionary Black Workers; International Black Appeal; and Topical Files.

Professor of dentistry and dean of the School of Dentistry at University of Michigan. Personal files primarily concerning his professional interests and activities; and university files detailing his relationship with various officials.

The Ward papers measure four linear feet and date from 1906 to 1962. They have been divided into two series; the Personal and University Records. Both series are arranged alphabetically. The collections relates almost exclusively to his professional career and interests.
