D, 20th Michigan Infantry in the Civil War and recounting daily activities and the sieges of Knoxville and Petersburg; correspondence, mainly with his mother and wife, while a student at University of Michigan and during the Civil War; papers of other family members; and portraits of Grant and members of his family as well as and water-colors of Civil War.

A 2011 guided historic audio walking tour and typed transcript of the University of Michigan's central and south campuses. The assignment created by 2011 U-M graduate Dara Fisher served as a final project for the HIS 302-History on Display: Museums, Historic Sites, and Living History course.

The tour covers the history behind the design, construction, and purpose of several buildings on U-M's central and south campuses. The audio version contains 12 tracks discussing each of the twelve stops on the tour. The transcript serves as a 38-page textual supplement to the audio guide and includes current maps of both central and south campus. Also included is a list of references.

The papers span the years 1837-1998 and document Dr. Hatcher's University of Michigan presidency, Ohio State University career, literary career, organizational involvement, personal life, and family history. Includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, manuscripts, speeches, yearly datebooks, oral history interview transcripts, magnetic audio tape recordings, an audiocassette recording, and photographs.

The collection spans the years 1837-1998, with the bulk of the materials covering 1891-1986. It includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, manuscripts, speeches, yearly datebooks, oral history interview transcripts, magnetic audio tape recordings, an audiocassette recording, and photographs. The collection is strongest in its documentation of Dr. Hatcher's presidency at the University of Michigan, especially in correspondence and speeches. Documentation is weakest on the subjects of his Ohio State University career before 1944 and organizational involvement before 1967. The collection may be useful to researchers interested in the history of the University of Michigan from 1951-1967, the duties of university administrators and their spouses, authors of the 1920's to 1950's, and environmental activism in Michigan in the 1970's and 1980's.

The Harlan Hatcher collection has been divided into two subgroups of files: those which were created or accumulated from his tenure as president of the University of Michigan (1951-1967) and those materials (mainly personal) dated either prior to or subsequent to Hatcher's presidential years.

The library, as archives of the University of Michigan, is the repository for all of the files of its presidents. For historic reasons, all of the papers of presidents up to and including Harlan Hatcher have been treated as personal collections and cataloged under the name of the president. Beginning with Hatcher's successor - Robben Fleming - and continuing to the present, the files of individuals occupying the president's office have been considered both personal and institutional. Records created from an individual's responsibility as president, usually materials from the years when he was president, are treated as office files and have been cataloged as part of the University of Michigan President's Office record group. Materials from either before or after an individual's tenure as president have been treated separately and have been cataloged under that president's name.

University of Michigan student organization formed to build and manage a student union, sponsors a variety of social and service programs and activities, includes records of building and financial committees and various activity/organization files including the University Mimes and the Union Opera (later renamed MUSKET) and scrapbooks and photographs of Union activities.

The records of the Michigan Union measure 21 linear feet and 13 oversize volumes. The records date from 1890 to 1983, although there are some collected photographs dating as early as 1884. The Roy D. Chapin papers include correspondence, speeches, articles, interviews, business papers, receipts, scrapbooks, photographs, and miscellaneous notes and files of Chapin's wife, and his biographer, John C. Long, concerning family matters, highway transportation, the automobile industry, general economic conditions, foreign trade, World War I, national defense, state and national politics, the Republican Party, and the University of Michigan. The collection also contains extensive papers concerning the Hudson Motor Car Company, including information on management policies, production, and labor organizing.

Graphic design office staffed by junior and senior students majoring in graphic design and screen arts & cultures, serving the three University of Michigan student unions (Michigan League, Michigan Union, Pierpont Commons). Collection consists of chronologically arranged scrapbooks and digital files containing designs and work samples including brochures, fliers, forms, signs, and advertising for campus offices, organizations and events.

The collection consists of a single series, University Unions Graphic Design Office Student Work, which contains content in hardcopy scrapbooks and digital files maintained online. The collection includes 32 large format scrapbooks and 3.71 GB of digital files. The series presents the graphic design work produced by the office from late 1984 through June 30, 2004.

The scrapbooks contain chronologically arranged samples of final designs. Affixed to the scrapbook pages are the brochures, fliers, logos, signs, and other products created and designed by the UUGDO design staff. For large banners and signs, a photograph of the final product is affixed as an illustration.

The digital files, also arranged chronologically, include source files for final pieces and working drafts, images, and graphics utilized in the production of these designs. The digital works are comprised primarily of raster files in TIFF format, while the remainder are vector files in SVG or PDF formats. Some notable works in the collection include Apple Computers advertisements, Rose Bowl promotional materials, event fliers for campus greek organizations, posters for major campus events, and novelty products. The digital files cover the periods of 1988-1999 and 2004, although future additions of digital material are expected to be made to the collection.

The Shaw collection is an assemblage of personal materials such as correspondence, essays and student notebook, and of Shaw's work as an artists including drawings, etchings, and other examples of artistic expression that he used in connection with his work with the University's Alumni Association and its publications. Records of Shaw's activities with the university will be found in the record groups for the Alumni Association and the Bureau of Alumni Relations also located at the Bentley Library. The collection has been divided into five series: Correspondence, Essays, Drawings and Etchings, Miscellaneous, and Photographs and other Visual Materials.
