Photographs collected from various sources, depicting buildings, faculty, students, and other topics relating to the University of Michigan.

The University of Michigan Photographs Vertical File represents a miscellaneous assemblage of U of M-related photographs from many different sources, mainly prior to 1950. The vertical file is especially strong on the earliest photographic images of the campus, university buildings, and class activities. While the vertical file contains many images of individuals, researchers should first consult the library's on-line catalog for images of faculty, administrators, and other University personalities. Most photographs originally accumulated by a University department or other unit are kept with that unit's records.

The arrangement of the photographic images was intended to parallel the classification used with University of Michigan published materials and with manuscript materials. Both of these used a classification system using letters of the alphabet (A through N only) for groupings of published or manuscript material. This system was carried over for use with the library's photographic images though there are certain categories for which images are unlikely to be found (Category A, for example, which pertains to legislation affecting the University or Category I which is reserved for university publications of a scientific or literary nature). The classification is further broken down under each letter by a number code which refers to a more specific subdivision. The heaviest concentration of images will be found under C (for U-M schools and colleges, departments, and other units), D (for university buildings and views), and F (for class pictures, photos of student organizations, and images detailing aspects of student life and customs).

Each heading in this finding aid includes the letter classification plus a numbered subdivision. In addition, the individual envelopes are numbered sequentially. Headings for which there are oversized images (usually larger than 8x10) will be indicated by reference to medium or large size photographs. When requesting material, researchers must specify the heading and the classification and folder number.

This finding aid describes only a small portion of the Bentley Library's U-M visual images. The on-line catalog will direct the researcher to additional images.

University of Michigan umbrella and activist student organization that supports and represents different Asian/Pacific Islander American (A/PIA or APIA) organizations and individuals, highlights issues related to the A/PIA community, and builds relationships with allied organizations on and off the University of Michigan campus. The collection documents aspects of A/PIA student communities at the university and includes administrative records, program files and publications, topical files, and correspondence.

The records of the United Asian American Organizations provide a good source of information on issues pertaining to the Asian/Pacific Islander American community and other groups at the University of Michigan. Materials are dated from 1986-2001 and include consitutitons and related foundational documents, correspondence, financial records, meeting agendas and minutes, publications, and topical files.

The collection also contains publications from the Bureau of Business Research, the Bureau of Industrial Relations, the Center for International Business Education, the Division of Research, the Executive Education Center, the Institute for International Commerce, the Program in International Business, and the Public Utility Executive Program. Also included are conference publications from meetings held at the university and sponsored or co-sponsored by the School of Business Administration. There are also some publications describing various development campaigns and the Summer Session. Additional materials include the publication entitled "Dividend". The Ross School of Business Publications, 1922-2017, (31 linear feet, 49.6 MB) are divided into five series: Unit Publications, Sub-Unit Publications, Topical Publications, Student Organization Publications, and the Archived Ross School of Business Website. The publications include addresses, annual reports, faculty bibliographies, brochures and pamphlets, bulletins and college catalogs, directories, manuals, newsletters, programs, proposals, reports, statistics, yearbooks, and digital file formats. The collection also contains publications from the Bureau of Business Research, the Bureau of Industrial Relations, the Center for International Business Education, the Division of Research, the Executive Education Center, the Institute for International Commerce, the Program in International Business, and the Public Utility Executive Program. Box 28: 1932-1972, contains proceedings from the National Symposium of the State of the Black Economy (1972) as well as the Michigan Accounting Conference (1932-1949; 1968-1970). Also included are handbooks; and reports.

Box 29: 1970-2011, contains reports and working papers including annual reports from 2009-2011.

Box 30: 1958-2013, contains journals; reports; business and working papers; proceedings from the 1958 Social Security conference; and additional publications.

Box 31: 1949-2012, contains reports; UMBS Public Policy papers (2002); volumes 1-4 of the Michigan Journal of Business (2008-2011); and additional publications.

Includes brochures, bulletins, college catalogs, lectures from the Fedele F. Fauri Memorial Lecture and the Leon and Josephine Winkelman Lecture series, manuals, newsletters, reports, and student publications. Also contains bulletins from the School of Social Work predecessors such as the Institute of the Health and Social Sciences, Institute of Public and Social Administration, and Institute of Social Work. The Center for the Study of Youth Policy bulletins and newsletters are also included.

Established in 1891 as the University of Michigan Training School for Nurses, the School of Nursing offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees and continuing education in nursing specializations including medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric mental health nursing, and nursing administration. The record group includes administrative and topical files of the dean, committee and faculty records, photographs, and research area files.

The physical records of the School of Nursing measure 112 feet, 2 oversize folders, and 1.24 GB (online), with an additional 9 feet of material in records center storage. Physical records date from 1891 to 2010, although the great majority of the material was created after 1940 by the current School of Nursing; the School of Nursing website has been archived since the early 2000s.

Only fragmentary records of the school's two predecessor units are found in the collection. Reflecting the source of the material, the collection has been arranged into broad subgroups, the titles of which usually reflect the dean from whose office the records originated.

Includes bibliographies; pamphlets and brochures; bulletins and college catalogs; calendars; directories; histories; manuals; newsletters such as that from Sigma Theta Tau (a professional and student nursing honor society); proceedings; programs; proposals; surveys; and school yearbooks from the School of Nursing. Also contains publications from the School of Nursing Alumni Association, the Center for Nurasing Research, Continuing Education Services, and the Graduate Program in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Also included are publications pertaining to various symposia, and milestone anniversaries such as the Diamond and Centennial Celebrations.

The School of Nursing publications are divided into five series that are arranged in alpha-chronological order: Unit Publications, Sub-Unit Publications, Topical Files, Student Publications, and the Archived School of Nursing Website. The Unit Publications series is arranged by genre and contains printed material published specifically by the School of Nursing. Many of these publications are widely distributed and may be published at regular intervals. The Sub-Unit Publications series contains publications from subordinate offices, departments, programs and organizations within the School of Nursing. The Topical Publications contain brochures, calendars, invitations, and programs from milestone anniversaries and other celebrations. The Student Publications series contains newsletters published by School of Nursing students. The Archived Website series contains captured websites from or related to the School of Nursing from 2002 onward.

Includes alumni directories, annual reports, bibliographies, brochures, bulletins and college catalogs, directories, histories, manuals, newsletters, programs, reports, student publications, and surveys. Also contains annual reports, brochures, directories, histories, manuals, newsletters and reports from sub-units such as the Biological Station, Michigan Sea Grant Program, Wildland Management Center, Department of Forestry, Department of Wood Technology and from ENACT (Environmental Action for Survival). In addition, there are by-laws, newsletters, programs, and the yearbooks entitled "Michigan Forester" from the Forestry Club, the Foresters Club, and the Foresters Association.

Publications produced by the School of Art and its subunits, including brochures, bulletins, calendars, college catalogs, exhibition catalogs, newsletters, and student publications.

The Publications series (1.0 linear foot) consists of two subseries: Unit Publications and Student Publications. The Unit Publications include brochures, bulletins, calendars, exhibition catalogs and student handbooks. Note that degree program requirements can be found in the Bulletin (Course Catalog) until 2001. Also note that the 1996 Bulletin covers the period from 1996 to 2001. After 2001, degree program requirements are contained within the Student Handbooks. Student Publications consist of catalogs and newsletters. Chartered in 1964, Sigma Rho is the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti, Michigan graduate chapter of the historically Black fraternity Omega Psi Phi. The collection consists of Sigma Rho's administrative records as well as topical files relating to the chapter's activities. Also included is a video invitation to the 2019 William DeHart Hubbard Scholarship Endowment Dinner.

The Omega Psi Phi, Sigma Rho Chapter records include bylaws, committee reports, correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, membership rosters, news clippings, publications, and topical files. The collection illustrates the activities of Sigma Rho as well as the positive impact that gifts of time and money given by social/community service organizations have upon their local communities. Also included is a digital video invitation to the 2019 William DeHart Hubbard Scholarship Endowment Dinner.
