The posters in the John Harriman Collection have been arranged first by size and then either by date or by broad category: University of Michigan events and Ann Arbor and other Michigan community events. The sizes of the poster and event flyers fall into three ranges. Within each, there are of course variations. The smallest range is mainly 8 1/2"x11" (with a few measuring 8 1/2"x14"); the medium size is a combination of 11"x17" and 17"x22"; the largest size of poster measures more than 21"x25".

The largest portion of the collection consists of posters and flyers advertising University of Michigan events, activities, courses, lectures, groups, and elections that took place on the campus of the university, involved groups from the university, or were sponsored by the university. Some of the more common poster topics include: student elections, student music groups, fraternity/sorority activities, campus classes and lectures, and theatrical or musical performances on campus. A smaller accumulation of posters and flyers advertises events, activities, groups, and elections that taking place in the state of Michigan, largely Ann Arbor.

Posters and broadsides concerning competition between freshman and sophomore classes at the University of Michigan

The collections consists of 37 poster (21 freshman class and 16 sophomore class) ranging in date from the sophomore class of 1886 to the sophomore class of 1944. The posters are listed by class year--the year a freshman class would graduate. Thus the class of 1910 poster marks the Black Friday event of the Fall of 1906.

Michigan Peaceworks (MPW) was an Ann Arbor based grassroots organization dedicated to peace, social justice, and human rights that was founded in 2001 following the September 11th attacks. The collection includes material related to their public events and outreach activities in Ann Arbor. These events and activities are well represented in posters, fliers, and photographs.

The Michigan Peaceworks Collection (4.5 linear feet) is largely composed of visual material in the form of photographs, flyers, and posters, related to events and rallies sponsored by Michigan Peaceworks and offers strong documentation of the peace community in Michigan in the decade following the September 11th attacks. The collection has been arranged in the following series: Administrative Files, Events and Activities, Publications and Outreach, Topical Files, Digital Materials, and Visual Material.

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology was founded in 2001 when the Department of Biology split into two separate departments, the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. The collection spans from 1998-2009 with the bulk of the material being from 2001-2009. The collection contains correspondence, administrative information, documents from the transitional team, and publications.

Publications of the office of Vice Provost for Academic and Multicultural Affairs include annual reports, bibliographies, handbooks and manuals, newsletters entitled Beyond Diversity and the OMA Update, reports, and surveys. The American Citizens for Justice, (or the Asian American Center for Justice), is a Detroit-based Asian American civil rights group founded in reaction to the fatal beating of Vincent Chin, a Chinese-American man. The ACJ later evolved into an organization advocating for the rights of Asian-Americans in general. Records consist of meeting minutes, financial reports, correspondence, publications and grants, Vincent Chin related information, legal case files, health project files, as well as topical files and audiovisual material.

The American Citizens for Justice record group details the administrative functions as well as the activities and goals of the organization. Researchers should be aware that there is significant overlap between the Roland Hwang Files and the other series in this collection, and so should consult all appropriate groupings as needed.

Support group founded at the University of Michigan to aid minority women employed as office and professional staff members in combating racial and sexist stereotypes and in providing counsel on matters of career planning, job hunting, and development of communication skills. Records include newsletters, brochures, and webpages of the Task Force, and programs and publicity for its Annual Career Conferences.

The Women of Color Task Force Publications include directories, newsletters, programs, brochures, and announcements, annual reports, clippings, posters, press releases, and programs of the Women of Color Career Conference. The publications are organized into two series: Unit Publications and Sub-Unit Publications.

Physician involved with peace organizations, notably Physicians for Social Responsibility, an organization opposed to nuclear weapons testing and the construction of nuclear power plants. Files relating to activities with the Physicians for Social Responsibility - Detroit, and with the Episcopal Peace Fellowship.

The Felix J. Rogers papers document Rogers' activities in local peace movements from the 1980s until 2005. The collection has been divided into four series of material which document aspects of Rogers' personal life and the three peace organizations with which Rogers was most closely associated: Physicians for Social Responsibility-Detroit, the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, and the Cranbrook Peace Foundation.

Papers of Dewey Ames, a resident of the Metro Detroit Area who participated and organized athletic events, organizations, including the Gay Games. The collection is divided into two series Personal Records, and Other Materials.

The collection largely documents Dewey Ames involvement in the Gay Games throughout the 1980's and 1990's. The emphasis of these sporting events was to help the LGBTQ+ community establish a global unity and strengthen their identity. Michigan Theater Foundation was formed in 1979 when it purchased the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, Mich., a historic landmark built in 1928 and restored by the fundraising efforts of the Foundation. The record group comprises administrative records, including files of the Executive Director, Board of Trustees and administrative committees; grant proposals, materials related to fundraising, theater restoration, renovation, and membership campaigns; descriptions of programs, series, and individual events taken place at the theater; publicity photographs, audio- and video (VHS) recordings, and outsize posters and calendars of events.

The records date to the period of the Michigan Theater Foundation's intensive fundraising campaign to preserve the Michigan Theater and the first 15 years of its life after the theater reopened its doors in 1986.
