Diary and diploma belonging to Daniel Satterthwaite, University of Michigan Class of 1859. Caricature sketch of the full class of 1859, including Satterthwaite, by Stephen H. Webb.

This collection consists of material related to Daniel Satterthwaite, a University of Michigan graduate from the class of 1859. His diary, dated between 1855 and 1856, contains his personal thoughts on student life, religious activities, farming, and events current to the time. Excerpts from the diary were printed in volume 35 of The Michigan Alumnus, a publication run by the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. The collection also includes his 1859 bachelor's degree diploma from the University of Michigan, as well as a caricature of the class of 1859 that was sketched by Stephen H. Webb.

Helen Gibson Cope Collection, 1867-1987

Collection of papers related to Jones-McDonald-Gibson-Cope families of Macomb County, Michigan. Genealogical chart, marriage certificate, high school diploma, photographic scrapbook, family correspondence and two different drafts of a compiled history for James Jones and his family descendants, spanning the years 1867 -- 1987. This collection is related to the James Henry McDonald family collection, which is also held at Bentley Historical Library.

The collection contains photographs, genealogical research, a scrapbook, correspondence and memorabilia of James Jones and his family descendants, including Ann Elizabeth McDonald and Helen Gibson Cope, from whom much of this collection originates. Materials span the years 1867-1987, with a genealogical chart created in 1954 and also many undated family photographs. The material is organized into two boxes and the genealogical chart is housed in an outsize folder.

Correspondence, poems, articles, addresses, account book, and Delta Kappa Epsilon autograph book; letter book, 1883-1884, dealing mainly with prisons and jails in Michigan which Barbour inspected; scrapbook of miscellaneous clippings and scattered correspondence. Portraits and informal photos of Barbour, daguerrotypes of Barbour as a child and of his father, John Barbour, and autograph book (1860s) with portraits of members of Delta Kappa Epsilon (University of Michigan); a composite photo of the a composite photo of Michigan Constitutional Convention, 1907/1908 (with Barbour).
