Central academic administrative unit of the University of Michigan which functions as chief executive assistant to the president, responsible for appointments and promotions with oversight for schools, colleges, educational units and programs; including budget planning, legislative relations, institutional research, and affirmative action policies. Supplemental Files subgroup includes material on a number of subjects that was filed separately from the vice presidents' or staff's papers when the record group was received.

The Supplemental Files subgroup of the record group Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs consists of 155 linear feet (in 159 boxes) and spans the years from 1953 to 2013. This subgroup consists of material that was not interfiled with the vice presidents' or staff's papers when the record group was received. The records generally were not created or maintained by any one staff member in the Office of Academic Affairs, but rather are the result of the examination of a particular issue or topic over a period of time by a variety of people.

Ypsilanti, Michigan African American attorney who was active in community affairs, particularly in areas of civil rights and education. President of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Ypsilanti-Willow Run Branch, 1981-1982 and 1987 to 1998. Correspondence, papers associated with his involvement in NAACP activities, documents relating to judgeship candidacy in 1992, printed material culled from Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations, and papers documenting service to Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church.

The Raymond G. Mullins papers are mainly comprised of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People material; papers related to his Washtenaw judgeship candidacy in 1992; printed material from Martin Luther King Day celebrations; material related to his various organizational affiliations; and documents representing his years of service to Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. The 6.5 linear feet collection covers the years 1953 to 2015. Record types include an audiocassette, awards, correspondence, clippings, event information, publications, organizational records, and photographs.

An agency tasked with overseeing the mass transportation operations of the Southeastern Michigan area. Records include local transit history, project plans, other regional research, and University of Detroit Mercy transit studies.

The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) of Southeast Michigan records (2 linear feet and 24.8 MB) consist primarily of historical research and the project plans of the former transit agencies in the Southeastern Michigan region, arranged in alphabetical order. A large portion of the collection consists of material specifically relating to transit in the Metro Detroit area. These records consist of news clippings and brochures that document the publicity of some of the more recent RTA projects. Historical documents such as legislation and project plans predating the RTA are included as well. These were utilized as research materials for projects, as well as providing context for the other materials within the collection. A number of folders contain project plans for the M1 Rail and the Woodward Avenue Light Rail Transit Project. These materials document the implementation of new public transit systems in downtown Detroit, and contains records such as cost estimates and descriptions of the plans. The last of these Detroit related records are research materials from the transition period to Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and his involvement in Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) plans during his tenure.

The other portion of the record collection consists of some regional research from other non-Michigan RTA areas, cities such as Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver, and St. Louis. These specific materials were referenced and utilized for the University of Detroit Mercy's transit studies, many of which are also contained within the collection. Some of these studies are contained within as paper copies, as well as digital versions, which can be downloaded online. The rest of the collection more directly correlates with the broader Southeast Michigan transit projects, including multi-year transportation plans compiled by the Southeastern Michigan Council of Governments. A small number of transit related legislation and policies for the state of Michigan are included, providing more context for some of the projects.

Office files and papers of state chairpersons William F. McLaughlin, Arthur Elliott and Elly Peterson, executive director Jerry Roe, public relations director Hugh Humphrey, and Joseph Hunting, executive director of the Republican State Finance Committee. The principal series in this record group include: Annual reports/Executive Committee meetings; Chairperson's files; Staff/Departments; Topical Files; Campaign Files; Convention Files; Miscellaneous; Sound Recordings; and Photographs.

The records of the Michigan Republican State Central Committee (hereafter SCC) consist of files generated over a twenty-year period by the three chairpersons, William F. McLaughlin, Arthur Elliott and Elly Peterson, who served in this period and by different staff members and departments within the party organization including executive director Jerry Roe, public relations director Hugh Humphrey, and Joseph Hunting, executive director of the Republican State Finance Committee. Although an attempt was made to maintain and otherwise arrange the files into series according to the name of the individual or department within the party that created the record, this was not always possible with the papers of the SCC. Thus some of the larger series within the collection, notably Topical Files and Campaign Files, have been drawn from different sources when that source of origin was not apparent or the files contained materials from two or more individuals

The papers of Richard C. Frank, preservation architect and planner, contain paper files as well as architectural drawings and sketches from Frank's Preservation / Urban Design / Incorporated firm and from his work after leaving the firm in 1984. Major projects include Crossroads Village in Genesee County, the Detroit People Mover, Orchestra Hall of Detroit, and the Smithsonian Institution Art and Industries Building.

The Frank papers are organized into six series: Project Files, Orchestra Hall, Crossroads Village, Smithsonian Institution Arts and Industries Building, Other Files, and Visual Material. The records contain paper files as well as architectural drawings and sketches. In most instances, the container list reflects the original order of the files. If a project number was written on a file folder or tube, this number is also recorded in the container list. Additionally, the majority of the material has been kept in its original folder.

Richard Hill, Jr. was a Black American lawyer and 1911 law graduate of the University of Michigan. This collection includes photographic material, ephemera, and digitized images documenting Hill's academic and personal life.

This collection documents the academic and personal life of Richard Hill, Jr., primarily as a law student at the University of Michigan. The images include campus events, candid photos of classmates, Alpha Phi Alpha activities including dating and courtship, and athletic games, 1909-1911.

Included with the photos are postcards and other ephemera including Hill's initiation certificate or "shingle," a program for the first annual banquet in 1910, and a program for a 1911 house party. A program for the April 1910 anniversary lists Hill's toast to the seniors entitled, "Survival of the Fittest." The back of the program contains the words to a fraternity song specific to Michigan, including the phrase, "Three in one and one in three, Epsilon and Michigan and our fraternity."

Many of the candid images were taken in and around the off-campus boarding house where he resided at 1017 Catherine Street in Ann Arbor with six other Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity members. These candid images are thought to be some of the earliest known images of informal off-campus life for Black students. Formal photographs document the 1910 banquet that marked the first anniversary of the Epsilon chapter's founding, and the 1911 house party, both taken by Ann Arbor studio photographer Alford S. Lyndon with fraternity members and their dates. The collection also includes the Michigan Law Class of 1911 photo, and a "Cup Debaters" of Michigan Law group photo that includes Hill.

Photos feature Richard Hill Jr., family, and friends, including Mrs. Frances Hill, Mrs. Marie (Johnson) Moore, Mrs. Helen Abbott (wife of Roger Abbot), Herman E. Moore (1893-1980; second African American to serve as U.S. District Judge for the Virgin Islands), and Robert Sengstacke Abbott (founder of Chicago Defender newspaper). Well-known for his innovative research in archaeology, ethnobotany, and paleoethnobotany, as well as a long and distinguished teaching career and dedication to public and professional service.

The Richard I. Ford Papers document the professional and personal life of one of the country's most prominent paleoethnobotanists, curator and former director of the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropology, and longtime University of Michigan professor of Anthropology and Botany. The records in this collection measure 27 linear feet, and date from 1968 to 2005, with the majority of the records from the period 1970 to 1990. The Ford papers are primarily comprised of correspondence, legal filings and consulting materials, lectures and conference presentations, publications, committee and service records, administrative materials, teaching files, and mixed media. The records are arranged into seven series: Correspondence, Legal Consultations, Professional Service and Activities, Teaching, University of Michigan Museum of Anthropology, Audio-Visual Materials, and Research, Publications, and Projects.
