The Milan Area Historical Society collection consists of Visual Materials and Collected Historical Materials. The Visual Materials includes postcards and photographs of the Milan area dating from the 1860s to 2006. Also included are photographic negatives of Paul Holcomb who was both a private photographer and photographer for the Milan newspaper. The Collected Historical Materials includes documentation of area businesses, community events, prominent individuals and families, organizational records, high school materials, and newspaper clippings dating to 2008. A series titled 2018 Accessions includes additional overlapping materials from the Visual Materials and Collected Historical Materials series.

Air Force Lieutenant accused of being a security risk during the era of Senator Joseph McCarthy; records include biographical information, correspondence, scrapbooks, audio-visual materials, and other documents pertaining to the case and to the movie "Good Night, and Good Luck."

The Radulovich collection consists of six series: Biographical/Personal, Security Hearing, Other Family Members, Audio/Visual Materials, Scrapbooks, and Other Materials. The collection is particularly strong in documenting the events around his hearing and the influences it caused in the succeeding decades.

Letters from University of Michigan student Milton Jackson (1845-1909) to Alban Gilpin Thomas (1843-1928), written between 1863 to 1867. The letters describe Jackson's daily life as a University of Michigan student during the Civil War, as well as contemporary politics.

The Milton Jackson letters is a collection of 12 letters from Milton Jackson to Alban Gilpin Thomas written between 1863 and 1867. The letters are arranged chronologically. They describe both Jackson's daily life as a University of Michigan student and the contemporary politics of the time. Notably, one letter describes Jackson's visit to hear Frederick Douglass speak in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Also included is one letter written on birch bark from his visit to Marquette and a cloth letter bag.

The collection also contains a letter from Jackson's wife, Caroline "Carrie" Swayne to Thomas along with two announcements of her and Jackson's wedding.

Jackson's letters were transcribed by the donor, James A. Boone. These transcriptions are included and complete for all but one of the letters and other supplemental material. Note that the arrangement and some of the dates in the transcript are erroneous. Transcripts are available as digital files as well as hard copies.

This collection contains racist and harmful language used to describe the Black community of Ypsilanti and the Indigenous nations of northern Michigan. See further explanation in the Processing Information.

Correspondence (1865-1901), with letters about his Civil War activities (including one written on Dec. 29, 1861 from Camp Lebanon to his parents, which contains a description of his quarters and the accidental burning of his tent); also a record of labor accounts, 1872-1875, military service papers and miscellaneous election tickets and campaign ribbons. Correspondents include: Charles M. Croswell and Fred M. Warner.

Public health professional known for contributing to discussions around the foundation of Earth Day, worked in the United States and abroad as a consultant; was a University of Michigan Public Health professor. The collection includes consulting research, teaching materials, and speeches and reports.

The Morton S. Hilbert papers document various aspects of environmental health and include materials related to Hilbert's teaching and consulting careers. They are comprised of four series: Personal Papers, Professional Papers, Subject Files, and Visual Materials.

Nabeel Abraham was a professor of anthropology and director of the Honors Program at Henry Ford Community College and an Arab American activist. Nabeel Abraham papers primarily document his focus on Arab American and Middle East issues.

The Nabeel Abraham papers primarily document Abraham's interest in and research on Arab American and Middle East issues. Also present are records of his time as a student at Wayne State University and the University of Michigan and his career at HFCC.

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill is a grassroots support and advocacy group for the mentally ill and their families. This record group focuses on the NAMI Michigan and NAMI Lansing chapters of the national organization. Records in this collection include annual reports, bylaws, meeting minutes and agendas, correspondence, event materials, educational and advocacy program materials, brochures, newspapers, newsletters, resource guides, and various other printed materials.

The records of NAMI Michigan and NAMI Lansing document the dedicated efforts of the two groups in providing support, education, advocacy, and research for the mentally ill and their families. The primary focus of their work has evolved into building a community for all those affected by mental illness. Materials include reports, board meeting minutes, correspondence, information about events and publications.

Quaker abolitionist and physician in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, and Schoolcraft, Michigan. Correspondence of Thomas, his wife Pamela S. Brown Thomas, and their children; addresses, autobiography, financial ledgers, and files relating to business activities, medical practice, and anti-slavery activities.

The collection is divided into two series: Correspondence and Other papers: anti-slavery, medical practice, and family.

The correspondence is of Thomas, his wife Pamela S. Brown Thomas, their children Ella, Malcolm, and Stanton, and relatives, friends, public leaders, abolitionists, and publishers. These letters deal largely with family affairs, land transactions, medical discoveries, woman suffrage, the Liberty Party, and Thomas's anti-slavery activities. There are also letters of Stanton B. Thomas while a student at the University of Michigan (1859-1864) and Civil War letters of S. B. Thayer, medical director of the Merrill Horse Regiment. Other Thomas papers include manuscript addresses, essays and other papers; a manuscript autobiography of Thomas; three account books, 1832-1879, pertaining mainly to his medical practice and other business affairs. Of interest is a prospectus for a newspaper, the American Freeman, which lists Schoolcraft area subscribers.

The records of the University of Michigan College Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP U-M) document the chapter's activities from 1968 to 1989, and 2017 to 2019. First established on May 8, 1951, the student chapter focuses on educating its membership and the wider university community on local and national issues related to racial injustice. This collection contains physical and digital materials that document the chapter's role in minority recruitment and retention for U-M, strengthening relations between U-M faculty, staff, and the chapter leadership, involvement in NAACP conventions, and other internal and community activities. Materials include administrative records, reports, conference materials, correspondence, flyers, clippings, photographs and video recordings, among other materials.

This collection contains physical and digital materials that document the chapter's role in minority recruitment and retention for U-M, strengthening relations between U-M faculty, staff, and the chapter leadership, involvement in NAACP conventions, and other internal and community activities. The National Council of Negro Women, University of Michigan Ann Arbor Collegiate Section records consists of a digital copy of the organization's 2017 constitution obtained from their Maize Page as well as digital outreach materials captured from their Twitter account, @ncnw-um. The outreach materials include event fliers, images of students at events, and advertisements for open positions in the NCNW-UM section, among others.
