Correspondence (1865-1901), with letters about his Civil War activities (including one written on Dec. 29, 1861 from Camp Lebanon to his parents, which contains a description of his quarters and the accidental burning of his tent); also a record of labor accounts, 1872-1875, military service papers and miscellaneous election tickets and campaign ribbons. Correspondents include: Charles M. Croswell and Fred M. Warner.

Twelve letters (1862-1865) written to his sister while he was serving in Company I, 3rd Michigan Cavalry. The chief items of interest are a secondhand account of the battle of Corinth; the skirmish at Holly Springs; the "Gallant charge on the log heaps"; guerrilla warfare; characterization of General Sherman; criticism of officers and chaplains; and a description of the camp at Brownsville, Ark.

Kay Clifford is a University of Michigan alumnus and a member of the first Peace Corps volunteer group which served in Uganda from 1969-1971. Found in the collection are materials that were collected by Clifford and by Bonnie A. Harris McKenna, a Peace Corps volunteer who received her training at the University of Michigan and served in Thailand. Collection includes materials that were used for the University of Michigan's 2010 exhibit, "U-M and the Peace Corps: It All Started Here"-- early Peace Corps publications, Thai language training materials, materials created specifically for the exhibit, a commemorative video recording, and volunteer ephemera.

The Kay Clifford papers comprise 1 linear foot of materials spanning the years 1945 to 2010. The papers contain materials which were collected for the University of Michigan's 2010 exhibit, "U-M and the Peace Corps: It All Started Here," celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Peace Corps, and include early Peace Corps publications, Thai language training materials, and materials created specifically for the exhibit. A significant portion of the collection consists of materials donated to Kay Clifford by Bonnie A. Harris McKenna for the exhibit on the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps. These materials were acquired during McKenna's training at U of M and while she was active in the Peace Corps.

Detroit clergyman who took the name Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman, founder of the Shrine of the Black Madonna, and advocate of the program and philosophy of the Black Christian Nationalist movement. The collection has been divided into four series: Albert B. Cleage, Jr.: Correspondence, Sermons, and Writings, the files of the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Detroit, Michigan, Church Leaders, and the files of the Shrine of the Black Madonna National Office.

The collection contains correspondence, sermons, and writings of Albert B. Cleage, Jr. (his name would later be changed to Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman); records of the shrine of the Black Madonna; papers of individuals within the church who assisted Cleage; and records of the National Office of the Shrine.

The collection has been divided into seven series: Albert B. Cleage, Jr.: Correspondence, Sermons, and Writings, the files of the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Detroit, Michigan, Church Leaders, the files of the Shrine of the Black Madonna National Office, Sound Recordings, Photographs, and Miscellaneous.

Republican State Senator from Monroe County, Michigan, 1850-1851, Michigan Supreme Court Justice, 1858-1875, U.S. Senator, 1875-1879, and U.S. Minister to Peru. Letters to his children, business letters from his law partner Robert M. McClelland, Catholic Bishop Peter P. LeFevre and Nathaniel L. Christiancy; legal documents, Civil War address, Michigan Supreme Court docket book, and miscellaneous papers.

The Isaac Peckham Christiancy collection relates primarily to the period in his career prior to becoming a United States Senator and Minister to Peru. The papers have been arranged into the following series: Background Information; Correspondence; Business, financial, and miscellaneous; Legal files: law practice and Michigan Supreme Court. Of note are letters to his children and business letters from his law partner Robert M. McClelland, Catholic Bishop Peter P. LeFevre and Nathaniel L. Christiancy. In addition, there is an address he gave during the Civil War.

Collection includes a diary (1862-1864) that contains brief notations of daily activities and maps of military engagements. Also includes some photographic portraits (one colored) and correspondence.

Press Secretary and Director of Communications for the City of Detroit and Mayor Kenneth Cockrel, Jr. following the resignation of Kwame Kilpatrick. Includes records of finances, official communications and news stories, and Cockrel's work on various initiatives such as support for the auto industry, Cobo Center expansion, Angel's Night, and Detroit's bond ratings.

Digital records were created and/or maintained by Cherrin during his tenure as Press Secretary and Communications Director for Detroit. The Daniel Cherrin papers document the City of Detroit's and Mayor Ken Cockrel's efforts to move beyond the resignation of Kwame Kilpatrick and promote civic and fiscal responsibility while navigating the larger financial crisis of 2008.

Chadwick's diary (Mar. 10, 1864-Mar. 14, 1866) tells of camp and scouting duties in Missouri and Arkansas and forays against General Shelby; a steamer trip to take part in the engagement against Mobile; the overland march in "mopping up" operations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana; the trek to San Antonio, Texas where they were part of the Military Department of the Southwest under General Sheridan, guarding the Mexican border and engaging in garrison and scouting duties. Special mention is made of the trouble with Colonel Mizner; the mutiny over rations and "unfair" orders with resulting court martial; a review of troops by General Sheridan; and a description of San Antonio.

Members of the Cavanagh family have resided in Yale, St. Clair County, Michigan since 1857. The collection was accumulated by Martha Cavanagh Cameron and consists of original and copied materials of various Cavanagh and Johnston family members.

The Cavanagh family papers have been arranged into an alphabetical series. The files have been arranged by name of family member with a few exceptions for general family and Yale related files. Of special note are the diaries of George Cavanagh, who was proprietor of the Princess movie theater in Yale, Michigan beginning in 1915.

Professor of linguistics at the University of Michigan from 1964 to 1986; includes eight lectures given by Catford on the occasion of his retirement, handouts from the lectures, a letter supporting Catford's nomination for the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award, an article about Catford in Michigan Today.

The J. C. Catford papers are significant for insight into the life and career of their creator and also for their information on linguistics, phonetics, and the instruction and acquisition of second languages. In addition to research articles co-authored by Catford, there are video-recordings from a series of lectures he delivered before his retirement from the University of Michigan. The collection consists of two series: Lectures and Written Materials.
