Established as a separate unit of the university in 1946, the University of Michigan Museum of Art serves as a research and teaching facility for the university and surrounding communities. The record group documents the museum's exhibitions and installations of the permanent collection and complementary interpretive programming. Records include exhibition files; executive committee minutes and director's correspondence; photographs; publicity files; and material related to the Museum Practice Program.

The records of the University of Michigan Museum of Art document its exhibition program, administration and its educational function through the Museum Practice Program. The UMMA record group has been arranged into seven series: Exhibition Files, Executive Files, Photographs, Publicity, Museum Practice Program, Historical Background, and Docents. Exhibition Files, 1946-2003

Exhibition Files (1946-2003; 18 linear ft.) are arranged chronologically by exhibition date. In some cases exhibitions were mounted in locations other than Alumni Memorial Hall. The Rackham Galleries were used on occasion and space in the undergraduate library held travelling exhibitions from 1957/1958 to 1975/1976. Researchers should note that undergraduate library (UGLI) exhibition files are sometimes interfiled with those held in Alumni Memorial Hall (AMH), but other years are filed separately, either before or after AMH exhibits. This listing of exhibitions should not be considered complete. Although it is fairly comprehensive, there are some exhibitions listed on annual schedules for which there is no file and, likewise, there are files for exhibitions which do not appear in annual schedules. When it was clearly identified that an organization other than UMMA organized and/or circulated an exhibition, its name appears in parentheses following the exhibition title and dates.

Information within individual files varies greatly and may include any or all of the following: correspondence with curators, exhibition organizers, artists and lenders; checklists; gallery floor plans; labels and label copy; pamphlets; publicity material, e.g., newspaper and magazine clippings, press releases; research material and notes; photographs, installation shots and UMMA objects; and audio recordings of artists' lectures and symposia. Material pertaining to the monetary value of museum holdings (at UMMA or elsewhere) or to individual donors (when not otherwise made public) has been removed. When possible, photocopies of the original pages were made with dollar values and names removed. Exhibition catalogues, produced by the UMMA or otherwise, as well as other related printed material (e.g. invitations, brochures, posters) have been filed separately (see separate finding aid for UMMA publications).

Topics include adult education, continuing education, work in several Michigan communities, and files relating to civil defense and disaster training, firemanship training, World War II management and science training programs, and gerontology. Documentation includes files of directors William Henderson, Charles A. Fisher, Everett J. Soop, and Alfred W. Storey. Of note are records of Charles Follo relating to extension work in the Upper Peninsula.

The University of Michigan's Office of Academic Human Resources (AHR) provides human resource services for various university faculty and graduate student employees. Its staff are responsible for union contract issues and processes for academic employees as well as managing the tenure and promotion process for the Provost's office. The collection consists of hard copy and digital promotion casebooks for University of Michigan faculty and research staff at the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses. Also included are promotion guidelines and checklists.

The Office of Academic Human Resources Promotion Casebooks record group primarily consists of files on various tenure-track faculty members recommended by the leaders of colleges, schools, divisions, and institutes to the Board of Regents for promotion and/or tenure. Each individual's file typically includes the notification of the Regents' decision in the case, the promotion recommendation from the dean (or appropriate unit leader), a curriculum vitae, letters of recommendation, and related documentation. The records are arranged chronologically by academic year and then alphabetically by academic unit. Larger schools and colleges associated with the University of Michigan Ann Arbor's campus, such as the College of Engineering; College of Literature, Science and the Arts; and the Medical School, are often further subdivided by department or division. Files for the UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint campuses are usually located at the end of each year and are also subdivided as appropriate. Particularly for the later years, as the files become more voluminous, additional documentation may be present, such as examples of research or teaching evaluations. In some cases, there is some blurring of the academic year or a promotion file was held back. For those reasons, those seeking a particular file may be compelled to look in one or more years—and particularly consult the appropriate out of season casebooks—to locate the sought-after file. In addition to these casebooks, the record group also includes promotion and tenure guidelines and checklists for particular academic years.

The papers of Spanish anarchist and poet Federico Arcos (1920-2015) comprise Arcos' correspondence, official papers, audiovisual materials, and photographs. After fleeing fascist Spain, Arcos resided in France and in Ontario, Canada. His papers reflect his international anarchist network and his connections with Detroit-area anarchists. In addition to his own personal papers, Arcos also preserved original and photocopied archives on the history of the Spanish Civil War and anarchism. Thus included in Arcos' papers are CNT-AIT records and a set of original letters to and from Emma Goldman, whom Arcos greatly admired, but never met.

Printed matter comprise anarchist writings and ephemera collected by Federico Arcos on the history of the Spanish Civil War and anarchism.

Physician involved with peace organizations, notably Physicians for Social Responsibility, an organization opposed to nuclear weapons testing and the construction of nuclear power plants. Files relating to activities with the Physicians for Social Responsibility - Detroit, and with the Episcopal Peace Fellowship.

The Felix J. Rogers papers document Rogers' activities in local peace movements from the 1980s until 2005. The collection has been divided into four series of material which document aspects of Rogers' personal life and the three peace organizations with which Rogers was most closely associated: Physicians for Social Responsibility-Detroit, the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, and the Cranbrook Peace Foundation.

Politically and socially radical underground newspaper founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 1965. The tabloid reflected an anarchist-libertarian philosophy during the 1970s under the influence of the "Eat the Rich Gang," which included editors Peter and Marilyn Werbe. Throughout the 1980s, the Fifth Estate continued to cover local issues and events, along with critiques of modern industrial society and articles covering the radical environmental movement. In 1999, the "Alternative Press Review" described the paper as an "anti-technology, anti-civilization, anarcho-primitivist quarterly."Collection consists of correspondence, business and office records, submissions for possible publication, clippings, flyers, posters, and photographs documenting the activities of the Fifth Estate primarily from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s. Financial documents, advertising, subscription and book orders, as well as legal documents regarding lawsuits are included. Correspondents include Bob Black, Peter Werbe, Marilyn Werbe, David Watson, John Zerzan, Lorraine Perlman, and editor (2002- ) Andy Smith (also known under the pseudonyms Sunfrog, Anu Bonobo, and Andrew Smith). The bulk of the audiovisual and digital media relate to Peter Werbe's Late Night radio show that dealt with similar topics as Fifth Estate.

The Fifth Estate Records document the activities of the Fifth Estate newspaper, one of the oldest underground newspapers in the United States. The records date primarily from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s. The record group has been divided into eight series: Historical, Correspondence, Publishing Material, Business and Office Records, Topical File, Miscellaneous Anarchist and Social Protest Ephemera, Photographs, and Audiovisual and Digital Media. There is a good deal of overlap among the series due to the work processes of the staff at the Fifth Estate and the lack of organization among the various accessions received by the library.

Records generated by administrators and offices charged with the financial activities of the University, including Secretary and Vice-President Shirley W. Smith and Controller and Assistant Secretary John C. Christensen; include general University financial records; records of land; trust fund records; proposed development and construction projects; operating records of buildings, divisions and other units.

The records of Financial Operations date from 1837 to 1982, primarily after 1910. The 27 linear feet of manuscript material, 52 oversized volumes and one reel of microfilm reflect not only the financial records normally associated with an accounting office, but also the broad range of subjects which became a concern under the leadership of Shirley Smith. What would eventually become Financial Operations may have served as a records storage office for many of the other units under Smith's control. In any event, Financial Operations became the guardian of a wide variety of records, documenting the University in a number of ways not normally expected of an accounting service.

Of particular note, the collection contains a variety of different record formats. Bound materials, in the form of books, are included in the boxes and when numbering more than one, are listed in the finding aid as multiple volumes. The collection also contains oversized volumes, in the form of large accounting books. These oversized volumes are numbered and stored separately. They are listed in the finding aid where intellectually appropriate, and designated by volume number. Enclosed in this finding aid is an index of the oversized volumes, organized by number, and their contents.

The collection is divided into six series: General University Financial Records; Trust Fund Records; Records of Land, Proposed Development and Construction; Operating Records of Buildings, Divisions and other Units; Miscellaneous Reports, Studies and Volumes; and Accounting Office Records.

The Finvola Drury papers consist of correspondence, publications, writings, printed ephemera, photographs, and audiovisual materials created or collected by Finvola Drury, a poet, teacher, , and activist.

The Finvola Drury papers are organized into eight series: correspondence, publications, writings, professional, personal, photographs, clippings, and A/V materials.

The correspondence series is sorted alphabetically by surname or institution name, except in cases where the correspondent's full name was not included in the correspondence or a single letter was addressed to multiple recipients. The bulk of correspondence is between Finvola Drury and her son, George S. Drury, and his wife Kathy. Other notable correspondents include Flo Kennedy, Sohnya Sayres, Jim Cohn, and David Cope.

A note on names: Finvola's daughter, Finvola, is often referred to by her nickname "Finny," or sometimes "Finvola II," while Finvola herself uses the nickname "Fin."

The publications series is sorted between poetry and prose and arranged alphabetically by title. Also included are various ephemera with Drury's poetry or prose printed on them, as well as a published review of Drury's book, Burning the Snow.

The writings series contains four subseries: poetry drafts, prose drafts, notes, and notebooks and journals. Both the poetry and prose draft subseries include files created and named by Drury and/or the donor, denoted in the finding aid and folder titles as "poetry draft files" or "prose draft files." Loose/unsorted poetry and prose drafts were organized alphabetically by name by the processing archivist and placed into folders labeled "alphabetized poetry drafts," denoted in the finding aid like "poetry drafts, A-Z." The notes subseries consists of pages of Drury's handwritten notes about literature, writing, ideas for poems or prose, and other subjects of interest. The "subject notes" files were ordered and labeled by Drury and/or the donor. Other notes were loose and/or unsorted and brought together in processing. Finally, the notebooks and journals subseries comprises notebooks and journals Drury kept throughout her life, as well as a handful of notebooks that belonged to her daughter, Finvola.

The professional series is made up of materials from Drury's career, sorted primarily by institution, followed by announcements for Drury's poetry readings, a copy of Drury's resume, and the draft of a memoir a student wrote under Drury's tutelage.

The personal series consists of biographical sketches written about Drury, notes and records from Drury's undergraduate and graduate education, personal ephemera, and a book given to Drury by Detroit artists.

The photographs series is organized chronologically.

The clippings series consists of newspapers and clippings Drury kept in her files, as well as a handful of collages Drury and her friend, Kathy Rose, made from news clippings.

The A/V series contains two LP music records, three tapes, and three CDs.

The First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was organized and established on March 23, 1847. Records include administrative files, subject files, published material, and both visual and audio-material.

The records of the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor have been divided into the following series: History/Background Information; Administration; Financial Records; Church Organizations; Topical Files; Miscellaneous later records; Photographs; Publications; Phonograph records; and Reverend Terry N. Smith. The records document church administration, membership activities, and the relationship of the church to its denomination and to other area churches. Included are records of communicants, baptisms and marriages (1873-1905); pew subscriptions and accounts (1878-1939) and other membership information; church bulletins and newsletters; minutes and reports of the board of trustees, board of deacons, church council, and various subcommittees; records of men's and women's church groups such as the King's Daughters, the Ladies Aid Society, the Women's Fellowship Society, and the Women's Foreign Missionary Society; records relating to the church's affiliation with the Ann Arbor-Washtenaw Council of Churches; files pertaining to the proposed merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Church with the Congregational Church in the 1950s; and materials documenting the work of Reverend Terry N.
