The Shirley Wolfe collection documents her interest in a number of social, political, and environmental issues, namely adoptions, conservation and environmental education, human rights and civil liberties, peace and disarmament, housing, and community development.

The Adoptions and adoption organizations series is arranged alphabetically by subject or name of organization, the files include newsletters from various organization, clippings, brochures, and various mailings. Some of the organizations represented in the papers include the Council on Adoptable Children and the North American Council on Adoptable Children.

The Social Issues series contains 1950s-early 1960s material on Ann Arbor community, environmental conservation education, and peace and nuclear disarmament. Ann Arbor community related material includes letters identifying Shirley Wolfe and her husband Arthur as the Ann Arbor community self-survey representatives; 1952 newsletters on the subject of Intentional communities (mostly published outside of the state of Michigan); and material related to equal housing in Ann Arbor. Material on peace and nuclear disarmament contains newsletters and bulletins of various organizations, including women's, on the subject of radiation pollution, politics, and war, among other issues.

The Sid Gilman collection consists of biographical, UM departmental, research, and grant information, in addition to numerous lectures and presentations that Gilman has given during his tenure at both Columbia University and the University of Michigan. Correspondence, filmstrips, photographs, videotape, and other media are distributed throughout the collection. Material about neurologist Derek Denny-Brown is also included.

The Sid Gilman collection consists primarily of correspondence and research papers detailing his professional career, although photographs, filmstrips, slides, and other images are also distributed throughout the collection. This collection is divided into seven series: Biographical Info, Professional Information, UM Neurology Department Information, Decade of the Brain, Lectures/Presentations, Denny-Brown Material and, Research. Two of these series are further divided into two sub-series.

Parts of the collection are arranged in alphabetical order for ease of use, although the remaining series have been maintained in their original order. In addition, some of the contents are partially arranged in reverse chronological order, also as maintained originally.

Environmental conservation and protection advocacy group founded in 1967 as the Mackinac Chapter of the Sierra Club, name later changed to Michigan Chapter; administrative, legislative, and topical files.

The records of the Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club document the activities of this state affiliate of the national organization as well as the general environmental movement in Michigan. The series in the record group are: Executive Committee Records, Administrative Records, Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Health Issues, Land Issues, Legislation, Topical, and Audio/Visual Materials.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Extended Occupancy Rights Group (SBDNL) records collected by Paul and JoAnne Wheaton. SBDNL was a group of residents of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore who were interested in seeking to extend or modify their lease arrangements with the National Park Service. The collection consists of documents pertaining to information about the residents of Sleeping Bear and their property, legal documentation, and media and news sources regarding the issue, as well as a large number of photos.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Extended Occupancy Rights Group Records contain the paperwork and photos accumulated by Paul and JoAnne Wheaton dating from the mid 1960's to 2015. Included are records of membership in the Extended Rights Group, legal files pertaining to court cases and legislation, and media coverage of the issue. Numerous photographs of properties destroyed by the National Park Service are present in the collection.

The Sligh family collection consists of the personal and business papers of the four generations of Slighs mentioned in the biographical introduction: James W. Sligh, Charles R. Sligh, Charles R. Sligh, Jr., and Robert L. Sligh. Although there is some overlap, the files have been arranged into seven series, one for each of these three Slighs, one for the Sligh Furniture Company and related family businesses, and one each for Newspaper clippings and Scrapbooks, and Visual Materials.

The Smith-Parker-Hicks-Winegar Family Papers document the history of several branches of the family who settled in Southern Michigan in the mid-1830s. The collection's seven series contain genealogical records, biographical materials, financial and business records, family correspondence, travel papers, military papers, as well as collected news clippings and scrapbooks about the Detroit Tigers.

The Smith-Parker-Hicks-Winegar Family Papers comprises the papers of various family members collected and maintained by Dr. George and Mrs. Lois Winegar. The collection is divided into seven series: Genealogical Papers and Miscellaneous Family Records, the Robert R. Smith papers, the Blanche Smith Parker papers, the Lois V. Parker Hicks papers, the W. J. Bryan Hicks papers, the George and Lois Winegar papers, and the Detroit Tigers Scrapbooks and Collected Material. The collection is organized around individual family members except for the first series, which contains genealogical and personal papers of multiple people from various family branches.
