The University of Michigan Museum of Art Publications (12.4 linear feet) include annual reports, brochures, bulletins, calendars, catalogs of museum holdings, directories, exhibition catalogs, newsletters, and press releases. These publications are divided into three series: Unit Publications, Exhibition Publications, and Sub-Unit Publications. The bulk of the publications document the exhibits mounted by the Museum of Art and those developed by other museums that were exhibited at the museum. The Docent Program, Friends of the University of Michigan Museum of Art, and the Museum Practice Program are also documented in the Museum of Art Publications.

The Publications series (0.2 linear foot) is arranged in one subseries: Unit Publications.

The Unit Publications subseries includes promotional brochures for the children's program called the Dino Club, as well as brochures describing the planetarium and detailing how visitors can organize group trips to the museum. Calendars describe the various workshops offered by the Exhibit Museum on Saturdays and through the summer in 1992 and 1993. There are also invitations and press releases from this same time period. There is also a complete run of the newsletter The Display Case which documents the activities of the Exhibit Museum. It was first published in 1987 and continues to the present. The Dino Club News was first issued in 1997. It focuses on children and the various child-oriented activities and programs sponsored by the museum.

Publications produced by the School of Art and its subunits, including brochures, bulletins, calendars, college catalogs, exhibition catalogs, newsletters, and student publications.

The Publications series (1.0 linear foot) consists of two subseries: Unit Publications and Student Publications. The Unit Publications include brochures, bulletins, calendars, exhibition catalogs and student handbooks. Note that degree program requirements can be found in the Bulletin (Course Catalog) until 2001. Also note that the 1996 Bulletin covers the period from 1996 to 2001. After 2001, degree program requirements are contained within the Student Handbooks. Student Publications consist of catalogs and newsletters. Some publications (or their successors) may no longer be available in print but are available on the school s website.

The Penrod/Hiawatha Company collection is mainly comprised of postcards, although some supplemental photographic items directed toward tourists is also included. The postcards, numbering more than 5,000, primarily are of the Michigan landscape and its towns and cities, covering every region of the state. Typical postcard themes dominate, particularly natural scenery, outdoor recreation, and shopping districts. The postcards date from the 1950s through the opening decades of the twenty-first century, although very few display copyright dates. The collection is divided into the following series.

As batches of postcards are received every years, it was decided to arrange the items in blocks of time according to the date of their accession. Thus for the researcher interested in a specific city, it will be necessary to examine the listing for each of the series.

Vogel collection of historic images of engineering & industry contains approximately 22,890 photographs (including 18,500 stereographs), 1220 prints, 13 photograph albums, 11 books, 117 pieces of ephemera, and 15 pieces of realia documenting a wide range of subjects primarily related to 19th-century civil engineering, industrial processes, and mechanization.

Particularly well-represented topics within the Vogel collection include images of different types of civil infrastructure such as bridges, canals, roads, dams, and tunnels as well as images showing construction projects, various types of machinery, modes of transportation (such as railroads, steamboats, automobiles, etc.), agricultural pursuits, natural resource extraction (including oil drilling, quarrying, mining, and lumbering), textile operations, electrical and hydraulic power generation, manufacturing, metal working, machine shops, and various industrial factory scenes. Many images of important and iconic structures are included such as the Brooklyn Bridge, Panama Canal, Hoosac Tunnel, and SS Great Eastern. Other represented topics include general architectural views, scenes of disasters/accidents, and portraits of notable individuals (such as Thomas Edison, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and Robert Stephenson). While predominately United States-focused, the materials are international in scope overall and especially include many images of industrial sites and civil infrastructure in Great Britain. The order of the collection's original arrangement has largely been kept intact.

Examples of items of particular interest include salt prints possibly taken by civil engineer Montgomery C. Meigs documenting the construction of the U.S. Capitol and Washington Aqueduct in Washington, D.C.; a series of portraits of early Baldwin Locomotive Works locomotives; images documenting the SS Great Eastern and USS Niagara steamships; a group of 4 colored stereoviews on glass produced by Frederick Langenheim showing the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge ca. 1850s; images related to specific railroads including the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, Mauch Chunk, Mount Washington Cog Railway, and New York City elevated railroad; and half-frame proof prints of stereographs produced by Underwood & Underwood as well as H. C. White & Co.

The Housing Division Publications (10 linear feet) include annual reports, brochures, bulletins, directories, ephemera (including flyers, invitations, posters, and programs), a history, manuals, newsletters, proceedings of conferences sponsored by the Housing Division, and reports. These publications are divided into three series: Unit Publications, Sub-Unit Publications, and Topical Publications. The Housing Division publications document the broad responsibilities of this office and its sub-units, including the various housing options, such as family housing, off-campus housing, and residence halls; as well as food and dining services, mediation services, Residence Halls Association, Residence Halls Libraries, and various university housing task forces.
