The papers were originally filed and arranged by his various office assistants over the years and because of this constant attention to detail, have been preserved in the manner in which they arrived.

Sawyer's papers document the range of his professional activities as well as his post-retirement projects. The collection spans the years of 1930, when Sawyer was curator at Phillips Academy, to 1997, almost twenty-five years after his retirement from the University of Michigan. Sawyer's correspondence, speeches, and research compose much of the collection; there are also photographs, course descriptions, and committee meeting minutes.

Charles Khalil Alawan is a leader in the Arab American and American Muslim community of Southeastern Michigan, as well as a leader of the Michigan Republican Party. The collection documents the development of the Islamic Center of America, Dearborn, Michigan, of which Alawan is a founding member, as well as other community activities.

Papers, 1925-1979, of Charles L. Stevenson, professor of philosophy at the University of Michigan, and his wife, Louise Destler Stevenson. Correspondence with philosophers George E. Moore and Ludwig Wittgenstein; Stevenson-Destler courtship letters; student letters from Yale in the 1920's; also manuscripts and lecture notes on philosophy; diaries of Louise Stevenson; draft of her novel; and sermon books 1841, 1845-1846 of his great grandfather, the Rev. Isaac D. Williamson, New York state clergyman.

The Charles O. Hucker collection consists of manuscript materials, covering a period from 1949 to 1982. The collection is arranged into four major series. These include the American Council of Learned Societies, the Association for Asian Studies, Editorial Notes and Correspondence, and Writings, Speeches, and Related. By far the largest series is the Association for Asian Studies. The manuscripts in this series reflect Professor Hucker's participation in various committees, on the Board of Directors, and as a member of the Ming Biographical Dictionary and the Ming Biographical History Project.

Charles ("Charlie") Rasch was a professional pianist, talented photographer, and graduate of the University of Michigan. The collection contains scrapbooks, photographs, and negatives documenting his life in Michigan. The majority of photographs and negatives are labeled with the date and location.

The Charles Rasch Collection (23 oversize volumes and 5 linear feet) is primarily composed of photographs and negatives documenting Michigan scenery. There is particularly strong coverage of Birmingham, MI, Harsen's Island, MI, the Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton, MI, and the Bald Mountain Recreation Area in Oakland, MI. Many of these photographs, especially his early black and white work, display his artistic training and sensibilities. Rasch's scrapbooks also offer a rich representation of the ragtime music scene in Michigan and the Ann Arbor area. This collection is also notable for the care Rasch took to annotate his photographs. Many negatives and prints are individually labeled, and all include some information relating to the date and location.
