Donald R. Shepherd (1936-) is a philanthropist, businessperson, and University of Michigan (U-M) graduate who has made several donations and scholarship endowments to both U-M and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and is an ardent supporter of both U-M athletics and the marching band. This collection contains material documenting Shepherd's family and his professional career, as well as his philanthropical activities at the University of Michigan and UCLA. Records include correspondence, photographs and photo albums, memoranda, and awards.

The Donald R. Shepherd papers primarily documents the philanthropic activities of Donald R. Shepherd at the University of Michigan (U-M) and the University of California, Los Angeles. Shepherd is largely involved with women's athletics at both Universities, although he has made scholarships available for athletes competing in both women's and men's sports. Shepherd is also a supporter of the U-M Marching Band.

Materials in this collection are chiefly correspondence in various formats (handwritten notes, emails, typewritten letters). However it also includes published materials; notes; various personal documents; event ephemera; photographs; and other materials. Many of these materials were placed into binders by Shepherd himself, with sticky notes affixed to pages of the binders that describe why he found certain documents important. The materials within these binders were kept in Shepherd's original order.

Michigan State Police officer, 1923-1941, Michigan Civil Defense Director during World War II, State Police Commissioner, 1947-1951, Republican candidate for governor, 1954, served on Michigan Liquor Commissioner and as Detroit Recorders Court judge. Papers include extensive documentation of his service as Director of Civil Defense and State Police Commissioner and his political activities.

The Donald S. Leonard collection is a valuable resource to researchers studying topics of law enforcement and civil defense and Michigan state politics and government. The Donald S. Leonard collection has been arranged into seven series: Personal and Correspondence, 1925-1966; Civil Defense; World War II Era, 1941-1946; Michigan State Police, 1929-1952; Detroit Police Department, 1952-1954; Political Files, 1950-1956; Organization and Activities Files; Audio-Visual Materials; Committee on Equal Educational Opportunities. Leonard also taught law course at the State Police Recruit School and Metropolitan Police Academy of Michigan.

Binkowski was a district judge from Warren, Michigan who collected extensively about Democratic politics and the Polish American community in Michigan. The collection includes materials collected by Binkowski on Democratic politics, the Polish community in Michigan, the cities of Detroit, Warren, and Hamtramck, Michigan, and collected letters, postage covers, and stamps.

Except for some personal and genealogical studies, the Judd papers have been arranged into series accumulated as a result of specific interests and activities. Dorothy Roth Wilson was a student at the University of Michigan during the 1930s. She was the daughter of University of Michigan Alumni and pharmacology faculty member George B. Wilson and Dorthea Ruth Payne. After she married James C. Wilson in 1936. Wilson and worked as an attorney in Washington D.C. The collection includes a scrapbook of programs, photos, and memorabilia from her activities as a student at the University of Michigan; photos and other biographical materials of her father George B. Roth and her mother Dorthea Ruth Payne.

The Dorothy Ruth Wilson papers contains material from Wilson’s time as a student at the University of Michigan, as well as material related to her parents. A scrapbook within the collection holds programs, photos, and memorabilia from her activities as a student from 1932-1936. Three folders of photographs of Dorothy, her father George Byron Roth, as well as her mother, Dorthea Ruth Payne are included. A small amount of material in the collection contains biographical material about her parents, such as correspondence, curricula vitae, and biographies.

Files relating to Democratic Party activities (largely on microfilm); files relating to her interest in civil rights, fair employment practices, and her involvement with the Michigan and National Consumers League.

The collection has two parts: original manuscripts and papers that have been microfilmed. A portions of the Original Materials series also appears on the microfilm, but the microfilmed material is unique--not a part of the papers.

Douglas Fergusson Roby was a member of the International Olympic Committee from 1952-1985 and president of the United States Olympic Committee from 1965 to 1969. The collection includes materials related to his professional activities and interests and contains personal files, national and international Olympic and athletic organizations' files and photographs, as well as Roby's personal files and photographs.

This collection is divided into three series: Personal/Biographical, Olympic Games, and Photographs and photo albums. Personal/Biographical (1922-2003, 1 linear foot) series contains material concerning Roby's early life and business activities, as well as speeches, writings, and a scrapbook. The Olympic Games (1948-1988, 6 linear feet) series is the largest series in the collection and encompasses Roby's activities in various national and international sports associations. The Photographs and photo albums (1914-1989, 1.3 linear feet) series contains photographs from throughout Roby's life.
