Material consists of personal correspondence to and from family members, as well as a large collection of slides and photo albums depicting the family's lives and travels in Asia. Also included Ralph Charles Lewis' 1972 diary.

SmithGroup (also known as SmithGroup JJR) is an architectural firm based out of Detroit, Michigan. Their records consist of administrative materials, client project files and photographic slides, as well as architectural drawings.

The collection is separated into two series, with materials kept in their original order. The Administrative Records series contains materials related to the operation of SmithGroup, including staff records and handbooks. The Client and Project Files series contains records related to client projects and are organized by client name. The files primarily consist of photographic slides, with some reports, and a selection of architectural drawings.
