Biographical material; correspondence with family and friends concerning in part current events and politics in pre-World War I Canada; correspondence with wife Katherine while serving in France 1918-1919; papers relating to his official responsibilities with the Michigan National Guard, as Judge Advocate, and as member of veterans organizations; include files relating to the Copper Miners' Strike of 1913 and to the Flint Sit-Down strike; also diaries, 1916-1919, of his experiences serving on the Mexican border and in France during the First World War; papers relating to Republican party activities in 1920 and 1924; and photographs.

The Samuel D. Pepper papers cover Pepper's military service and legal career, as well as his relationships with family and friends. The collection provides particularly strong documentation of the impact which Pepper's Michigan National Guard (MNG) service had on personal and professional aspects of his life. The papers are divided into four main series: Personal, Military Activities, Professional and Political Activities, and Photographs.

Samuel Miller Brownell was an educator and school administrator who served as U.S. Commissioner of Education from 1953-1956 and as Superintendent of Detroit Public Schools from 1956 to 1966. He was married to Esther Delzell Brownell, who taught high school history before their 1927 marriage. This collection documents the Brownells' family life, and to a lesser extent, Samuel M. Brownell's career. Materials include a large collection of correspondence between Samuel and Esther Brownell, personal papers reflecting the family's social and cultural activities and daily life, and a series of scrapbooks, dating from 1900 to 1988, containing photographs, clippings, newsletters, correspondence, and ephemera. The older scrapbooks provide information about the early lives of both of the Brownells, and later scrapbooks document the family's vacations and Samuel Brownell's career as an educator, administrator, and political appointee.

The Samuel Miller Brownell and Esther Delzell Brownell collection documents the family life of two individuals from their courtship through their old age. To a lesser extent, the career of Samuel Brownell as educator is also documented. The papers are arranged roughly chronologically into three series, beginning with the lives of each of the Brownells before their marriage, and then following them as they moved from Nebraska to Michigan, to Connecticut, to Washington, D.C., to Michigan again, and finally to back to Connecticut.

Professor of forestry and forest economics and first dean of the School of Forestry at the University of Michigan, prominent conservationist, chairman of the U.S. Timber Conservation Boards in the 1930s and president of the Society of American Foresters. Records including correspondence and topical files, primarily document his participation in conservation organizations and professional associations and service on government boards and commissions. There is some material on his scholarly and administrative work at the University of Michigan, but the latter is more fully documented in the records of the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources.

The files document Dana's professional activities mainly from the period after his World War I service and concern his organizational involvements and his participation in forestry conservation projects. Dana's role as dean of the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources is less fully documented here as these materials were retained as part of that school's record group (also housed at the Bentley Historical Library).

The San Antonio, Texas family photograph album contains approximately 115 photographs of a family taken in and around San Antonio, Texas from ca. 1910-1930. The photographs vary in size and a few include handwritten notations on the front or back. These notations mention first names (Art, Uncle Ed, and Allan) and the address of one of the frequently appearing houses, 624 E Guenther St, San Antonio, Texas. The images show a family over a period of approximately a decade, featuring Allan throughout his childhood. Allan can be seen with multiple dogs, cats, and chickens, swimming, in a baseball uniform, and with his family. One photo is of particular interest; Allan, as a toddler, is holding a rifle and is standing with two men in baseball uniforms and military gear at a military encampment. Also noteworthy, a small portion of the photographs have a "Fox Tone Picture," stamp on the back. Some photographs are loose throughout the album and others are housed in folders between pages.

A large part of Artiaga's papers concern his activities as Governor of Bukidnon Province. These materials, in both Spanish and English, include the minutes of the provincial board, official correspondence, miscellaneous technical reports, and some photographs. The remainder of his papers relate to The University of Michigan and his activities within The University of Michigan Alumni Club of the Philippines in the period of 1950-1957. In addition to his correspondence with Mortimer Cooley, there is a letter written in 1931 regarding the visit of Michigan Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg to the Philippines. There is also information about Frank Murphy, Governor General of the Philippines located in Artiaga's 1933 correspondence with Mortimer Cooley. Some of Artiaga's other correspondents are University of Michigan professors and administrators, including George G. Brown, Mortimer E. Cooley, Ivan C. Crawford, Joseph R. Hayden, James K. Pollock, Alexander G. Ruthven, Shirley W. Smith, and T. Hawley Tapping.

The School of Natural Resources records comprise 54 linear feet and span a wide range of years from 1903 to 1994. The records document the internal activities of the school, both administrative and academic; the role of the school as a unit of the University of Michigan; and curricular changes and the development of new academic programs over the years.

The School of Dentistry is a teaching and research unit of the University of Michigan. Records include administrative files, faculty meeting minutes, curriculum and education, subject files relating to dentistry and to the professional interests of the school's faculty; and photographs and films.

The School of Dentistry record group spans the years from 1873 to 2010, but does not comprehensively document the entire span. The records are fragmentary, providing only a partial picture of the School of Dentistry. Documentation reflects the tenures of various deans with scattered documents from the late 1800s and more detail in the period 1920-1990. The records give some insight into the development of dentistry as a profession, and the training and education of dental students. The records of the School of Information (formerly the School of Library Science and most recently the School of Information and Library Studies) include 51 linear feet of material dated between 1904 to 2014. The records document the development library education at Michigan from its beginnings as summer course to a full-fledged professional program that has, in recent years moved beyond traditional library science to incorporate a multi-disciplinary approach to information studies with a strong emphasis on the role of technology in the creation, dissemination and preservation of information.The records also document the decision to change the name of the school from the School of Library and Information Science to the School of Information Science, further emphasizing a focus on information and technology.

The records, including correspondence, reports, committee minutes, administrative files and course descriptions, came to the library in nine accessions. There is some overlap and continuation of series among the accessions.

The records of the School of Nursing Alumni Association of the University of Michigan date from 1907 to 1993, and measure four linear feet. In addition to documenting the growth of the organization and the interests and activities of the alumni, the collection also includes information about the development of nursing as a profession. The records include organizational records, correspondence, topical files, printed material, collected material regarding the careers of individual alumni of the University of Michigan School of Nursing, and photographs.

Established in 1891 as the University of Michigan Training School for Nurses, the School of Nursing offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees and continuing education in nursing specializations including medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric mental health nursing, and nursing administration. The record group includes administrative and topical files of the dean, committee and faculty records, photographs, and research area files.

The physical records of the School of Nursing measure 112 feet, 2 oversize folders, and 1.24 GB (online), with an additional 9 feet of material in records center storage. Physical records date from 1891 to 2010, although the great majority of the material was created after 1940 by the current School of Nursing; the School of Nursing website has been archived since the early 2000s.

Only fragmentary records of the school's two predecessor units are found in the collection. Reflecting the source of the material, the collection has been arranged into broad subgroups, the titles of which usually reflect the dean from whose office the records originated.
