The personal correspondence includes a series of correspondence from genetics pioneer Hugo de Vries regarding plant switching, the effects of World War I on botanical research, and de Vries travels in the United States. The subseries also includes correspondence with Arthur Stanley Pease, an amateur botanist and future president of Amherst College.
