Ann Arbor, Michigan, archivist; collected materials relating to local Democratic Party politics; student papers; and photographs.

The McNitt papers consist of materials collected relating to his interest in, and activities with, the local Democratic Party. Included are newsletters, leaflets, campaign materials and newspaper clippings concerning state, county, and municipal politics, particularly the presidential campaigns of Eugene McCarthy in 1968 and George McGovern in 1972, Ann Arbor City Council and school board elections; the New Democratic Coalition of Michigan; the Human Rights Party; the state presidential primary in 1972; Democratic state conventions; state elections in 1968, 1970, 1972, and 1974; and the election campaign of Congressman Richard F. VanderVeen in 1974.

The collection also includes copies of student papers on topics relating to Michigan history. The titles of these papers are "The Library Extension Movement in Grand Rapids", "Journalism and the Republican Party of Michigan, 1890-1920; A Study of the Michigan Republican Newspaper Association", and "Peace and American Society : Rebecca Shelley and the Peace Movement."

Finally, there are many hundreds of photographs taken by McNitt relating to the construction of the Bentley Library and to the accessioning of the papers of Gerald R. Ford.

Episcopal clergyman at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Ypsilanti, Michigan; also local historian of Washtenaw County, Michigan

The Pennington papers relates primarily to his activities with the Washtenaw County Historic District Commission. Other materials concern general Episcopal Church activities in Inkster and Ypsilanti, Michigan. Of special interest are the historical research papers prepared by Pennington on Episcopal and Ypsilanti topics.

Material received with the 2014 accession mostly include records related to the St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

Professor of dentistry and dean of the School of Dentistry at University of Michigan. Personal files primarily concerning his professional interests and activities; and university files detailing his relationship with various officials.

The Ward papers measure four linear feet and date from 1906 to 1962. They have been divided into two series; the Personal and University Records. Both series are arranged alphabetically. The collections relates almost exclusively to his professional career and interests.

Sister organization to the American Legion organization for Michigan veterans. The record group documents the Department’s administrative functions, its publications, and involvement with the Girls State government simulation program.

The record group of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Michigan documents the organization's annual meetings, history, fundraising, and affiliation with the Girls State program. The series are: Administrative Files, Publications, Historical Materials, Girls State, Topical, and Visual Materials.

Professor of English at the University of Michigan and director of the University Library; correspondence with colleagues, writings and lectures, organization files.

This collection includes family correspondence; files pertaining to Historica Critica, organization established to study, record, and celebrate the history of the University of Michigan; honors and awards; correspondence with colleagues and other educational institutions; and writings and lectures. The collection includes materials relating to the Katholepistemiad Club, a University of Michigan faculty club.

Law firm records include legal records of estates, divorces, chancery cases, and debt collection, correspondence, and numerous land records. McKee family records are also included.

The collection includes many types of legal records, including: Estates, Divorces, Chancery Cases, and debt collection papers. Correspondence is from clients, lawyers, legal firms, banks, and various land offices. Some of the larger case files include those of the Bank of Lansingburgh (New York) and the Indian Mill Creek Salt Company (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Numerous land records include: State Tax Deeds, Indentures, Mortgages, Bounty Lands for Veterans and their widows, Deeds, Plat Maps, and Receipts for land. The firm had many clients in Michigan and New York (State).

McKee family records include family correspondence, 1840s-1874, undated; legal cases, and Aaron McKee’s (father of James McKee) inheritance case, 1856-1864. Also included is the 1862 license for Ball and McKee and a letter of protest over the removal of the soldiers’ memorial in Grand Rapids, 1908.

Processing Note: Personal materials of John Ball were apparently removed when this collection first came to the Clarke and became the John Ball Family Papers.

The collection includes the following series, biographical information, photographs, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, speeches, and subject files documenting Eugene C. Warriner's tenure as Central Michigan University's president, 1970, 1989.

Dr. Warriner’s personal papers, 1885, 2002, including Biographical Information, such as his Obituary, 1945, and Memorial Service Materials, 1946; a Scrapbook, undated, ca. 1890; Photographs, undated; his Diaries and Date Books, 1885, 1903, 1905-1906, 1929-1937; his License to Preach, 1913; and related newspaper articles (copies). Other series in the collection include Correspondence, which includes personal correspondence, such as about the death of his son Paul Warriner, 1917, and professional correspondence, 1902-1939, undated; Meeting Minutes of various CMU organizations and committees, 1932-1940; Reports of CMU and educational organizations, 1919,1939; Speeches Dr. Warriner gave, 1906, 1942, undated; Subject Files, 1907-1948 and two student papers about him, 1952, and undated; and his Writings and Speeches, 1900-1935, undated. Lastly, there is a box of 3 x 5 inch index cards, indexing his correspondence, 1992-1939, undated.

The collection provides good documentation on Warriner, his interests, ideas, and education and CMU related issues of interest during his tenure as CMU’s president.

Items of note specifically related to Warriner’s interest, views and work related to peace and related issues include: (all in Box 2 folders): in Correspondence: Peace, 1911-1916, 1919: numerous correspondence related to peace, most notably the American School Peace League Letterhead letter about the Celebration Peace Day, April 12, 1915; in Speeches, Miscellaneous-Peace Papers, 1912-1913: the rare newspaper-style undated facsimile about Kellogg-Briand Pact “Si Vis Pacem, Para Pacem;” and in Subject file: American Association of Teacher College, Standards, 1926-1927: his handwritten draft, Essay on Socrates.

Papers documenting the professional life and advocacy of Hanes Walton, an eminent professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan. Collection includes correspondence, book reviews, dissertations produced under his guidance, materials demonstrating Walton's participation in university minority advocacy committees and publications, course syllabi and exams, oral histories and statistics gathered in the course of Walton's research, and files pertaining to his role as a supporter of historically black colleges and universities in the United States. Select files in this collection are in digital formats.

Materials in the Hanes Walton papers will be of particular interest to those seeking to understand one of the nation's preeminent African American political scientists as academician, teacher, and advocate; the collection's contents also illuminate broader questions of minority education, political participation by African Americans, and the process of scholarly publication in the United States. Although Walton enjoyed a career of more than forty years at four collegiate institutions, the coverage provided by his collection begins in the late 1980s and addresses his time at Savannah State College and the University of Michigan. Materials include drafts of works and reviews, research material, and correspondence. Also, video recordings of tributes to Walton by his University of Michigan colleagues, as well as of the 2015 memorial lecture in his name.

Organizational records, correspondence, topical files, printed material, collected material regarding the careers of individual alumni of the University of Michigan School of Nursing; and photographs.

The records of the School of Nursing Alumni Association of the University of Michigan date from 1907 to 1993, and measure four linear feet. In addition to documenting the growth of the organization and the interests and activities of the alumni, the collection also includes information about the development of nursing as a profession. The records include organizational records, correspondence, topical files, printed material, collected material regarding the careers of individual alumni of the University of Michigan School of Nursing, and photographs.

Court records include estates, appointments and accounts of guardians of minors, miscellaneous receipts, and file cards.

The collection consists mostly of court records documenting estates and cases of the guardianship of minors. Other miscellaneous papers, and the original File Cards for each case file, are included. The provenance of the collection is unknown.
