A series of 14 lengthy manuscript letters written by Charles J. King while stationed as a U.S. Marine in the Philippines during the Philippine-American War. He describes serving under General Jacob H. Smith in Samar following the Battle of Balangiga (sometimes referred to as the "Balangiga massacre"), who was later court-martialed for excessive and indescriminant use of violent force against the residents of Samar. King describes various other battles in graphic detail, as well as his personal military career history.
