Michigan Library Association records, 1891-1991

The pre-1990 accessions from the Michigan Library Association (MLA) are available in three broad groups of material which overlap one another in terms of office of origin, dates, and subjects. This arrangement reflects the way the material was received from the MLA.

The papers received with the 1990 accession cover the years 1937-1952 and 1961-1989 with the bulk of the material from 1980-1989.

The papers received in 1993 cover the years 1977-1991 and mostly contain records of the Intellectual Freedom Committee. Accession also includes bylaws, minutes of the Management and Administration Forum, policies and procedures, and minutes of the Executive board, 1981-1983.

The records of the Michigan Manufacturers Association have been arranged into the following series: Administrative records; Bulletins; Print masters of Enterprise and other mailings; Collected historical materials; Photographs; John C. McCurry (General Manager; John G. Thodis (Director of Government Relations and later President); and Topical files: George M. Van Peursem and John G. Thodis.

The Michigan Masonic Publications collection includes programs, flyers, handbooks, newsletters, bylaws, directories, rituals, and miscellaneous publications of a variety of Masonic organizations in Michigan. Statewide bodies and local bodies in Southeastern Michigan are most strongly represented. Although materials printed as early as the 1850s are found in the collection, the bulk of items date from the 1950s through 1970s.

Histories of organizations and proceedings of the major orders in Michigan, as well as a few reference works relating to freemasonry in general, are cataloged separately in the Michigan Historical Collections printed works catalog.

Michigan Medicine Office of Development (University of Michigan) records, 1875-2001 (majority within 1960-2001)

Unit responsible for fundraising and event programming involving alumni of the University of Michigan Medical Center and Health System. Includes topical files, Medical Center Alumni Society meeting records, and photographs and videotapes of development events and programs, including named professorship dedications.

The collection includes the records of the Office of Medical Development and Alumni Relations, as the Michigan Medicine Office of Deveolopment was known previously (5.5 linear feet). The records date from 1960 to 2001 and are organized into three series: Topical Files, Medical Center Alumni Society (MCAS) Files, and Audiovisual Materials. The records include programs, photographs, minutes, reports and videos reflecting programming and educational activities and the changing organizational structure and mission of the Office of Medical Development and Alumni Relations over time.

The Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan) publications contain materials from University Hospital, University Hospitals, University of Michigan Medical Center (UMMC), University of Michigan Health System (UMHS), C. S. Mott Children's Hospital, and the Women's Hospital. The publications include annual reports, bylaws, brochures, manuals, directories, reports, newsletters, and websites dealing with different aspects of the health system including administration, development, facilities, marketing and outreach, nursing, and services.

The Michigan Medicine publications contain materials from University Hospital, University Hospitals, University of Michigan Medical Center (UMMC), and University of Michigan Health System (UMHS). Though "University Hospitals" is an entity which has existed in the past and does exist concurrently with UMMC and UMHS, it is not treated here as a sub-unit, because it is often used interchangeably with "Medical Center" or "Health System" on publications.

The publications of the Medical School (part of the Health System) and the academic and research departments of the Health System (such as the Department of Surgery and the Department of Pediatrics and Communicable Disease) are held in separate publications groups.

The publications collection consists of nine series. Six series deal with different aspects of the health system: Administration, Development, Facilities, Marketing/Outreach, Nursing Services, and other Services. Two series deal with additional hospitals within the University Health System: C. S. Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Health (Women's Hospital). An additional series contains an archived copy of the Michigan Medicine website.

Michigan Office of the Auditor General records, 1840-1937

Miscellaneous records of the Michigan Office of the Auditor General.

The record group consists of miscellaneous materials received as part of the accessioning of the papers of Governor William Milliken. Most of the records date in the mid-1930s, although there are some items dating as early as 1840. The record book includes a letterpress book (1842-1850) as well as balance sheets and financial work sheets, 1934-1937; statement of operations, 1934-1936, of the Michigan War Loan Sinking Fund; and appraisal book of Dewey and Hazelton asset lands.

The collection consists of copyprints (with some negatives) of historical images collected by members of the Michigan Photographers Society. The photographs are arranged alphabetically by name of city where the collector lived. This is followed by descriptions of the images. The strength of the collection is for its visual documentation of various Michigan cities, including street scenes, businesses, private residences, views of ships, railroads, lumbering activities, and local customs.
