The record group spans the period from 1824 to 1995 and includes church registers of services, meeting minutes, and other documentation of the administrative life of the church. Members of the Cavanagh family have resided in Yale, St. Clair County, Michigan since 1857. The collection was accumulated by Martha Cavanagh Cameron and consists of original and copied materials of various Cavanagh and Johnston family members.

The Cavanagh family papers have been arranged into an alphabetical series. The files have been arranged by name of family member with a few exceptions for general family and Yale related files. Of special note are the diaries of George Cavanagh, who was proprietor of the Princess movie theater in Yale, Michigan beginning in 1915.

The collection consists mainly of poetry Cecilia wrote and collected correspondence she received from family and friends. Biographical materials include copies of census records documenting her life and a mortgage.

The first part of the collection is organized alphabetically by the different names the College had over time. Materials that could be linked directly to the various names are organized alphabetically under the appropriate College name. Subject files composed the second part of the collection, and are also organized in alphabetical order. Of particular note are the many reports and materials relating to the Teacher Education Project, mostly 1960-1964, and a report on Rural School Management, a Class Project, 1952.

Processing Note: Some publications and quasi-published materials as well as newsletters are included in this collection for a variety of technical reasons, as well as staff limitations and demands.

The record group consists of packets of title abstracts for named subdivisions and additions in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter, and other communities in Washtenaw County. The principal series is arranged alphabetically by name of subdivision with a smaller series of miscellaneous (largely unnamed) parcels of property in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti (with a scattering of other cities and villages included.

The Chaney Family Papers include correspondence, notebooks, legal documents, essays, and photos, which are arranged alphabetically by topic. The correspondence spans almost 120 years and consists of correspondence between family and friends. A letter from L. W. Caryl to Henry Chaney, dated 29 July 1832, describes a method for early diagnosis and cure of cholera. Between May 1837 and January 1838, Isabella Caryl (then living in New York) received letters from several of her former school mates (who called themselves “The Hill Girls”) who had moved to Detroit. Among the notebooks is one of Willard Chaney’s medical notebooks. Of the seventeen photos in the collection, only one, Marjorie Chaney Bow (Henry’s granddaughter), is identified.
