The Historical views of Malden album contains approximately 200 items including photographs, reproductions, prints, newspaper clippings, and maps related to the history of Malden, Massachusetts. The album (26 x 31 cm) is largely disbound with black cloth covers. Many items are loose.

Items of interest include images of street scenes, commercial buildings, schools, houses, gravestones, plaques, monuments relating to the history of Malden (with particular attention paid to the homes of the Winship, Sprague, and Waite families), and several group portraits of Malden students including "Malden High School Cadets" in uniform holding bayoneted rifles and the Centre Grammar School graduating class of 1883 at their school desks. Also present are images of interior and exterior views of city hall (festooned for the 250th anniversary in 1899), and Massachusetts Governor Curtis Guild dedicating Bell Rock around 1905.

The album (20 x 28 cm) has brown leather covers and is partially disbound. Numerous images have manuscript captions on their versos. Images of interest include views of the marble quarry; the town of Marble; the trolley used to move marble slabs; the school and cottages made for the workers; the saw mill, finishing mill and planer; power generators; a 3-photo bird's-eye view of the marble deposit and quarry; a 2-photo panorama of the mill and village; the lathe making marble columns; a cave for mining called the Wilson Opening; and elements of the Denver-based U.S. Post Office and Federal Building (now the Byron R. White U.S. Courthouse) and Cheesman Park Memorial being constructed. The last photograph of the album bears the stamp of Arthur Luckhaus.

• Images of particular interest in this volume include street views (mostly of Washington Street) in Cumberland, Maryland; a bird's-eye view of Cumberland from Rose Hill Cemetery; views of the Chesapeake & views of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and Potomac River; interior views of St. Peter & Paul Church during Christmas of 1889; a view of the Old National Road (Cumberland Road); and a portrait of a Capuchin monk identified as "Brother Metard." Also of interest are three photographs depicting African Americans of Cumberland, including an image captioned "A moment of antebellum days" showing a black woman identified as "Mammy Daphne" conversing with a white woman identified as "Aunt Eliza Murdock"; an image captioned "Celebrities of Frog Eye, with pickaninnies in the gateway" showing two black men operating a horse-drawn wagon bearing a placard that reads "The Cumberland Baggage Delivery Transfer No 4" while a group of black girls looks on the background; and an image captioned "Our neighbors in Shanty Town" showing a black man with an amputated leg standing in front of a house while playing the banjo. Many but not all of the images bear contemporary inscribed captions. Some photographs are present in other volumes. Contemporary inscription on first page reads "Thornton Tayloe Perry."
